Tonight's Republican Gala to Net Bush 38.5 Million
I just dropped my teeth when that went across one of the 'tickers'---a one night take. My God, when are the American people going to wake up and realize their future is being bought right out from under them?! Today he cries his crock tears to the Arab world and tonight he puts on his monkey suit and stuffs 38.5 big ones in his back pocket!! This little news came right after I had watched the NBC Nightly News. Brokaw (sp?)said (very gravely) that in the aftermath of the abuse story they had new polls. I looked at my husband and said, "I'll guarantee you that the support for the war will have slipped and other bad stuff for George; and then they will tell us that his numbers still are the same in the "vote for" category and he's ahead of Kerry. Bingo. Husband said, "how on earth did you know that"?? Predictable. 46-42, I believe, and 5 for Ralphie. Again, America doesn't care and doesn't blame anything on that boy that they say they would love to have beerwith........unbelievable.
Well, they may be falling out of love with the Iraq War but they put him back in and they will have many more where that came from.

3. 38.5 million? How is that possilble?

$2,000 is the max donation, then that means 19,250 people are at this Gala, is this correct?

5. That's exactly what I thought when this came across the ticker but
I'm wondering if it's like a whole bunch of donations collected by people and presented to him tonight and not just representing the donations or per plate money for the dinner. It has to be.

9. They just pledge soft money to the PAC's....
They can only dole out $2K max to Bush/Cheney but they can give millions to PAC's. That soft money is what needs to be eliminated but most likely never will.

4. Are you sure about the 38.5 million? That would be a record - by a lot.
That's a good haul for a month.

7. I saw that story about the $38.5 mill a few minutes ago
Obscene.

BTW, I'm actually not concerned about that poll. In early March, after Kerry clinched the nomination, that poll had Bush leading by 2 when otherpolls had Kerry ahead by a small margin. So after more than a month of unrelenting negative ads, Bush gained 2 points. Big deal. As for the abuse scandal, sometimes it takes time for those kinds of things to do damage. It's not overnight.

Edited on Wed May-05-04 07:05 PM by crozet4clark
they're just "likely voters" being counted. it's B.S. and I don't buy the #s for a second. Bu$hIt is going down in November. Read this story today in Washington Monthly by Chuck Todd, it'll explain things better:

10. Mrka is
in the recliner, with remote, resides in trailor or small house
with pick up truck, SUV or both, in rural area, churchgoing (maybe) and tells ma get im a beer and that
is what votes for "current resident".
Cause that's all they know is what they see/hear on
tv or local general store, diner, church and gas station. "They" know "he" is one of "them" !
