Apologize, Schmapologize.

Why is the media suddenly obsessed with Bush "apologizing" to the "Arab World" for the Abu Ghraib tortures? Even CNN-International just spent three worthless minutes on this topic.

Everywhere I turn, the press is analyzing why Bush doesn't just say "I'm Sorry," as if saying "I'm Sorry" would allow us all to wash our hands of this nastiness and move on to Michael and Kobe coverage... it's trite, I tell you. Trite, and another attempt to reduce important news to the lowest common denominator.

I don't care if * flies into Baghdad tomorrow, kneels in front of Abu Ghraib, sheds tears and says "I'm sorry" 10,000 times. Horseshit. Fire somebody, then resign. Or, at the very least, just fire somebody. If it were me, I'd start with Gen. Myers, but if he wants to start with civilians, Rumsfeld works for me.

Say it with flowers, Chimp. Send a "You're Fired" bouquet, if you have to. But please, exhibit some leadership, would ya?

At any rate, apologizing doesn't cut it for me, and even a few firings wouldn't make it all just go away. Anyone care to comment on this latest media obsession?

prolly his prefrontal cortex which governs our primitive old brain deep inside which is where emotions emerge. With the prefrontal damaged, raw emotions are triggered easily and without the normal control.

Common Sense, Reality, Logic, etc, escape these kinds of people.

This is why Bush is unable to apologize, his emotions control him, not Reason and Common sense. This is why he cannot control his anger

It's irrelevant. It would be seen as hollow at best. Why this sudden stress about "apologizing" and putting a band-aid on the Abu Ghraib scandal to make it all better? What's their (the media) intention here?

..but that's not the point. The point is that the more question the press asks about this idiot; the better we are. If we're lucky it will spread to the remaining 40% or so that always claim to support him.

You got to figure even his people got to be pulling their hair over this one. They set up these phony little interviews with the Arab press to calm the waters; and the fool can't even apologize. His press secretary is forced to do it for him!!!

So let them ask away. Until it slowly starts to dawn on those 40% that the president they support has a major malfunction. They won't admit it; but they'll think it.

'Apologies' from presidents and prime ministers are just another way to tell people to 'move on.' They are worse than useless. Far better to fire Rumsfled and Wolfowitz and to throw Perle into prison on richly-deserved charges of treason.

you expressed exactly what I thought when I received an e-mail from some women's group demanding that Karen Hughes "apologize" for likening pro-choicists to terrorists. I don't want an "apology"! Well do I remember being told, as a child, to tell my sister I was "sorry" for some sibling thing I did--it was phony then and it's phony now--nothing but WORDS that signify nothing.
