What should be the Democratic Party position on Iraq?
Should we officially announce that Iraq was a bad idea from the beginning, based on lies and false assumptions, and we should get out as soon as possible? We should state that we do not agree with the Republican policy on Iraq. We believe we need to take a different strategy in the Middle East and work to make more allies in the Middle East - not more enemies. We believe the Bush preemptive strike policy was wrong and is wrong and we will work to undo it.

Or should we continue the policy - only with changes in degrees? We will keep our troops in Iraq but will pull them back to "safer" areas. We will continue to try and make Iraq a "democracy" in our own image. We believe Iraq is better off and the world is better off without Saddam Hussein. We will continue the Bush "policy" but we will change the way the leadership handles the war. Is that the position the Democratic Party should take? Which would be preferable? Or is there another way?

1. Kerry should announce a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops
and invite the U.N. to take their place. My hunch is that, faced with an ultimatum date firm of U.S. withdrawal, the rest of the world, including Arab countries will step up.

Bottom line, as long as it's our show, it's hopeless. Get out.

2. Get the hell out! Cut and run...whatever you want to call it.
It didn't really hurt us after we 'cut and run' out of Viet Nam. They are now an ally and economic partner.

Just bring our children home and keep them from dying for the corporate pigs in this country!! That picture of Rummy shaking hands with Saddam should be shown on every network along with the Reagan EOs on delivering Saddam WMDs and our support of the atocities aganist the Iranians.

3. denounce bad policy
rather than continue to window dress a sad display of jingoistic stay-the-course hooey.
the world becomes increasingly less safe every day the occupation continues.
but first must overcome mass denial even on the democratic side.
the photos are an opening for needed discussion.
where is the leadership?
