The Guardian

Colin Powell's key aide has described US sanctions policy against countries such as Pakistan and Cuba as "the dumbest policy on the face of the Earth".

In an article in GQ magazine Larry Wilkerson, chief of staff of the United States secretary of state, bemoans Mr Powell's firefighting role in President George Bush's cabinet."He has spent as much time doing damage control and, shall we say, apologising around the world for some less-than-graceful actions as he has anything else."

The article, which includes an interview with Mr Powell, is most illuminating for the comments made by his close friends and colleagues who are explicit about his distrust and disdain for the hawks in the administration.

Mr Powell's deputy, Richard Armitage, remarks on his boss's anguish at the damage to his credibility following his speech to the United Nations last year making the case for war and insisting there were weapons of mass destruction. "It's a source of great distress for the secretary," he said. (SNIP)

A must read to see how that weasel Powell and Armitage are trying to cut and run)

1. It's a little late for that.
Powell and Armitage are buds from way back. If they really had a shred of integrity they would have resigned before the invasion.

2. The mobs are heading for the Bastille
Its time to change uniforms like a good turn coat.and escape out the back before all chances of escape are cut off.

Self preservation is the word of the day!

3. I could tell Uncle Fester/Armitage
Was getting ready to go into full *cover my ass* mode when he appeared before the 911 commission but I thought it was wishful thinking on my part.

One way or another the shit is going to hit the fan very shortly IMO

4. Richard Armitage
- Richard Armitage, Deputy Secretary of State is president and partner of Armitage Assoc. LLP, was a Boeing consultant, a Raytheon consultant and an advisory board member. Armitage was also President Bush's special emissary to Jordan's King Hussein during the 1991 Gulf War. Armitage has also worked in the past for Halliburton.
http://dc.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=45246&group=webcast

From March 1992 until 1993, Armitage as ambassador, funneled U.S. dollars into the new independent states of the former Soviet Union. In January 1992, the Bush Administration's desire to cozy up to the NIS (and their oil) resulted in Armitage's appointment as Coordinator for Emergency Humanitarian Assistance.

During this time Armitage took on the other international patronage projects that normally follow war, accommodating the assuagement of the European Community, Japan and other donor countries.

Armitage owns Electronic Data Systems stock worth $250,001 to $500,000 (EDS is the 49th largest defense contractor, and lobbies the Defense Dept. over various appropriations issues), General Electric stock worth $500,001 to $1 million, Merck & Co. stock worth $100,001 to $250,000 (Merck lobbied the Defense Dept. over the Biological Weapons Convention implementation protocol), and Verizon Communications stock worth $250,001 to $500,000.

Armitage also worked as a consultant to Halliburton. Armitage is a former co-chairman of the U.S.-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in the reconstruction of the emerging economies of the former Soviet republics, after the fall of the Communist empire; along with Condi Rice, who rode herd on the Bush cabal's bid for U.S. control of the Caspian oil.

I knew EDS sounded familiar

AccuPoll has teamed with Electronic Data Systems to jointly bid on voting system opportunities. EDS is a leading global information technology services company for over 40 years, and one of the leading systems integration companies in the world, with over 140,000 employees and annual revenues in excess of $21 Billion. EDS will provide deployment, training, and customer support services to state and local governments. Management believes that EDS currently has relationships with, or does business with, more than seventy percent of every federal, state and local government in the United States.

5. And, I just read a link showing his ties to CACCI the Private Contracting
Agency involved in Iraq Prison Atrocities. Mr. Armitage is a very, very busy man. And, a very, very wealthy man. He doesn't want all this ruckus to spoil his little fortune when all this implodes and neither does that weasel Powell.

If I am not mistaken when fat John Engler left as Gov of Michigan he became CEO of EDS.

7. One wonders how he had the time to fit it all into his busy schedule. But
maybe it was only his influence he had to peddle instead of actually doing any work, just like the rest of these folks who leave administrations and then profit over their contacts.

The rest of us have to put in the hours and work. They just make a few phone calls and Congress does the rest for them....Disgusting.
