Poll question: Do you think Colin Powell sold out to save Africa from AIDS?
Randi Rhodes just brought up an interesting question about Colin Powell. Do you think he gave that BS testimony at the UN because he made a deal with the neo-cons to help Africa combat AIDS? or is he just evil like the rest of the administration?

One has to wonder why this very self-centered, greedy, ruthless regime would bother to help Africa. Some people think it is to win over black voters, but no black person in his right mind would vote for Bush!

hmm...interesting...

2. Yes
and there is more. I have the sneaky suspicion that there is a very nasty civil war ongoing inside the administration. The only reason why we have not invaded Iran and Syria YET, is Powell...

I have suspected that for a while and the GQ interview cememted that in my view.

Problem is, most of this shit will be clasified so deeply that we will not know for fifty + years, and when it is declassed only historians will care

3. Doubt it
I think that if that were the case, he'd have jumped ship by now.

Africa, 'sfar as I know, hasn't gotten the money * promised, and if Powell had any shred of decency, he'd be out of the Administration screaming about the criminal acts they're guilty of.

Also, isn't his son head of the FCC? Nepotism, anyone? Tell me he's a good guy while letting his son get a job from this Administration.

7. Why would they help Africa?
I don't for one second believe it's from the goodness of their hearts.

5. I used to defend Powell
I really used to like and respect him. No more.

There's no way in hell he brokered some deal for Africa. He abandoned his own people long ago. Otherwise, how could he support the sh*t he supports?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I have a hard time believing it. He sucks, like the rest of them. :P

:eyes:

our "help" to Africa is all going to Big Pharma. It's a payoff to the industries & the abstinence-preachin' Religious right - not a favor to Powell.

10. That could be true....IF
any of that money actually did help Africa. We tied to rules that satisfy the conservative base and ensure none of the money goes there. IF we truly wanted to help, we would stop backing big pharma companies and start supporting compaines that make generics for much cheaper prices.

And don't buy the bullshit I saw on a west wing re-run. Africans have trouble taking HIV/AIDS meds because they don't have watches and can't tell time. The drugs have to be taken at specific times many times a day. Crap! Crap! Crap!
Most newer drugs don't have to be taken in that frequency at all and are not any where near as rigid in times. Their side effects are often minimal as well. In fact, in treating new patients, they often only take 2 or 3 pills a day, once in the morning when you wake up and once at night before you go to bed. How hard is that?

11. The price of American AIDS drugs are absolutely insane
It's not surprise that Africans can't afford them. Americans can't even afford them. I'm not familiar with how the administration is helping the problem, but there is not one drop of goodness in their hearts.

The way to help is not to give our tax dollars to big pharma, but to give that money directly to african aid groups and give them the freedom to buy whatever drugs they want. They will surely buy them from India and Brazil. They could give their whole GDP's to big pharma and still not get enough drugs.

These "compassionate conservatives" show compassion only for conservatives and big corporations. bastards.

I hope Kerry has the guts to stand up to Big Pharm. There is no need to continue the disastrous protectionist policies that "free-trade" Republicans use to stay rich. How can any "free-trader" justify this bullshit? We need to import drugs now!
