7. Maybe he's in the "other" category.
Undecideds usually don't go for the incumbent. If they wanted him i very much they'd be decideds.

10. Yes, he is
but "Other (vol.)" means that they didn't say his name, so the polled person had to say without prompting, "I am going to vote for Nader" or something of the sort.

3. Am I wrong, or is 13% "not sure" really high? (nt)

6. Yes, it is
What probably happened, was that lots of people were leaning towards Kerry, saying things like "I am probablyh going to vote Kerry," so they decided not to count them.

5. What's with the 2% not voting
Considering 40%+ didn't vote last time?

9. Several things
It's a poll of registered voters.

People lie.

People who bother answering a political poll are more likely to vote than people who don't.

People think they will vote and then don't feel like it at the last minute.

11. So basically..
Polls that don't ask only for likely voters are useless...

13. Yes
as are polls that ask for likely voters, (though perhaps they are slightly less useless) because who is a likely voter turns out to be slightly different in every election, and every pollster has a different way for looking for likely voters.

14. Well,
they may tell you the country's general sentiment. Beyond that, they muddy the pool.
