So what is the take of the Christian right on our treatment of prisoners?
It's no surprise that Freepers and people like Rush are doing their best to defend the Bush administration's collusion with sadistic soldiers. After all, anyone who's been to Freeperville knows that the site often struggles against its psychotic elements. In fact, sadism and bullying are the trademarks of the Republican right since at least Newt Gingrich.

But, I haven't seen any comments from the religious right, people like Falwell, for instance. I wouldn't be too surprised if some of these people are truly horrified and alarmed by what's going on. Has anyone seen anything? If they stand for anything, they should certainly be speaking up on this issue.

1. Silence equals assent.
And there is a lot of silence out there.

2. Only thing I've seen
are conservatives on another board spewing hatred for Muslims-the Christian at least limits it to the extremist Muslims, but even he thinks that the faith is a 'gutter religion'. Sigh. Very difficult to be tolerant and remember Er Rahman Er Rahim (Mercy and Compassion) when reading their posts.

7. Funny, if it were not true. No abortion, but after they are born, rape,
torture, kill them. Everything is kosher in the name of God.

5. i'm sure jesus approves torturing the godless heathen
there's always a way to spin a bible verse or scripture. say, 'do unto others 'pre-emptively' before he does unto you', 'hate thy enemy worse than you love yourself', 'suffer the little children to be exploded'. etc.

my mother, an utterly deluded bornagain, says that these are indeed the end times, and the infidel (non-believers) will all soon be GONE.

gone. what a concept.

9. They've barely shown up since Bennett got outed, but my theory is
this...

Jerry and Pat were so off the wall with their claims that they were told to lay low and that George, himself, would deliver the christian message.

10. You need to put it in terms they understand
That's why the people who make no attempt at cultural or historical understanding in this country (the Bush administration in particular) are so puzzled over why this is such a big deal. You can try and tell them that what was done to those prisoners was so at odds with their religion that it would be akin to forcing a fundamentalist Christian to renounce Christ and the fundie would say that you can't compare the two because Christ is the Lord and Allah's some made-up thing.
You can try and tell them that the Muslim faith calls on true followers to avenge crimes like these, and they'll tell you "That Koran thing isn't The Good Book©, ours is!"
