The Left is Not Monolithic
I am seeing alotta of posts saying "oh rall shouldnt have said what he said it makes the Left look bad" and i remberber some one showed a pic thread that some freeper emailed to them of the March 20th protests with demonstraters who had signs like Justice for Palestine or Buhddists for peace or Commies against us imperialism.Another thread poped up asking if those were "fringe" were hurting the cause. And now that i think about it i rember a debate amongst organizers whether or not to include end the occupation of palestine to the event because of what "they" might think. The Left is not Monolithic!!! it includes more "mainstream" people like the deaniacs to greens to communists to anarchists and in various degrees in between. Some feel that when people talk about capitalism being evil they are hurting the cause while some say not talking about how capitalism is the fuel for war and imperialism hurts the cause. Some think voicing support for the Iraqi Resistance hurts the cause because people would think they are un american and dont show support for the troops whereas some would say "supporting the troops" is wrong because it would excuse tghe autrocities they have committed and showing support with people who are serving and furthering us imperialism while not showing solidarity with the oppressed iraqis who are rising up in resistance against forgien oppressers and are simply protecting their homes and family.I see some people who think being militant and taking part in direct action and civil disobiedence are hurting the cause and others who feel that if more people would be militant just look at how much we could accomplish.Hell i see this split even in the dem party i know a dem who think we shouldnt support gay rights because "they" might be offended and i know others who are very vocal about gay rights and make a point of it. The goals of the left are not always the same for dems it might be simply getting kerry into office and going from there while some others goals might be ending freetrade or getting rid of imperialism or to help bring justice to palestine something they dont see happening under kerry. Some might be for getting rid of capitalism or getting rid of the state aswell. any way it annoys me
when people say that others are hurting the left no one owns the left and their is no set doctrine for the left
