BBV: optical scan ballots and secret voting by the blind with AutoMark
Edited on Fri May-07-04 11:39 AM by Eric J in MN
Calfornia is being sued by the blind for using optical scan ballots in some counties, because they supposedly can't vote secretly on them.

Actually, the blind can vote secretly on optical scan ballots, with the help of the Automark from Vogue Election Systems.

Pleas contact the California Secretary of State's office and let thme know about the AutoMark from Vogue.

1. Yes, yes, yes. And Sequoia (used in Riverside) can do it

because they are doing a paper ballot system in Nevada which, apparently, has a feature for the blind.

This is such a crock. Now, I need the name of that disabilities group. They had the name of a representative in the paper, but I'm interested in the group, because my current investigation is following the money trail. Frankly, many people, like Jim Dickson, who are shooting off their mouths "on behalf of" the blind, already know that paper ballot options have been developed to accomodate the blind, but they keep touting the same old talking points.

But I've got something even better to knock that lawsuit out of the park: One of my researchers has discovered that the Sequoia Voting System, which happens to be used in Riverside, can be set to flip the votes for Spanish language ballots -- Andy and I reported that in March -- but I've now found out they can flip the votes on the audio ballots too. Guess what group uses the audio ballots?

A voter verified paper ballot, of course, designed to accomodate the blind, would catch this.

2. It's my understanding the some CA counties are going to use
Edited on Fri May-07-04 11:27 AM by Eric J in MN
It's my understanding (based on the LA TIMES article) that some CA counties are going to use optical-scan ballots, and not Sequoia, and so the issue for those counties is how to let the blind vote secretly.

The AutoMark from Vogue is the answer.

Do you know if anyone has ever asked Jim Dickson about the AutoMark from Vogue, and whether he has any objection to it?
