Amnesty Intl released nude Iraqi photos in April of last year. They knew.
I remember calling Warner's office on the subject. I called all my congressmen and sent them the link to the website. I even found a post I made on this with the link to the pics at the Norwegian paper.

Here is the Amnesty article.

Here is the link to the Norwegian paper with the pictures.

The date was April 25, 2003.

1. I remember hearing about this on CNN.
The story lasted less than a day. It wasn't considered a big deal, and the soldiers were reprimanded. It didn't get much attention from the press, and there was really no public outcry.

2. My post to a mailing list, April 25, 2003.
"This is totally outrageous behavior, whether it was orders from higher up or
not. It is showing a side of America that I am growing to detest. There
is never an excuse for degrading anyone or any culture. I am not proud of
our country right now.
I called my congressmen today, and I waited while they went to the amnesty
link to check out the sick pictures. I think they were alarmed. I told
them I was not proud my country was doing this, and it reflected badly on me
and on all of us.

Follow the link at the bottom of the article to the Norwegian paper which
broke the story.
There are pictures that will break your heart. Times article just confirmed
it tonight."

The Times link is broken now. Long time ago. How dare they say they did not know. Warner's office had me talk to two different people. I think I will call them and remind them they knew and did nothing.

3. Has Warner pretended he did not know?
This John Warner, head of Armed Services committee? I hope not, because I know many of us called his office in April of last year.

6. Everyone who called Warner re this last year needs to go public ASAP
and blanket newspapers, local radio talk shows, anything you can with your testimony that you called. If anybody has long distance phone bills to prove the calls were made, get them out and photocopied! I know, most use the toll free numbers, but there might just be some tangible proof to wave under their noses that YOU called THEM on this issue.

Do not let them duck responsibility on this one. The torture makes our troops more vulnerable and they have to be held accountable for allowing atrocities to continue and for increasing the danger to our troops.

Do not let them duck responsibility ever again.

I would really like to know that if you could tell me. I talked to two people in his office last year.

7. In case anyone cares......
Phone # for Warner's DC office
202-224-2023

VA office
804-739-0247

If anyone cares. I called both. I think I will see if I can get hold of my phone records. I never tried that before. I doubt I have bills back that far.

For the record, I KNOW there was discussion here at DU. I know, because I was part of it. I don't know if I can find it now, but I know others called.

8. A spokeswoman for AI said they started investigating in Mar 2003
2003!

She was on Washington Journal this past week.

They started getting reports one year and two months ago!

And Rumsfeld was entertaining the propgandists and they were rolling in the aisle at his jokes and speaking about his cleverness.

Rumsfeld was placed on a pedestal by the very people who were trained to investigate. Their parents wasted their money.

9. Thanks! NOW I want to find the thread here at DU. Not showing on search.
I have searched through all my bookmarks, done an archives search, and nothing shows up.

The archives search only goes back to July of last year.

I am going to call Verizon to see what getting my records from that month entails. Anyone have a clue?

10. Please keep this on top and please send links to Senate Committee
This needs to be sent to most of the Senate Committee right now. Anyone have links on how to reach Kennedy, Byrd, Levin? I have been trying by using their e-mail address posted on their site to no avail. How do we get this information to them? Is there a FAX number?

13. I remember when that happened. Nobody was the least bit outraged
The mainstream media didn't pick it up at all.

The men were caught looting and the Americans forced them to run around naked with the word "thief" written on their bodies.

I'm not sure it has anything to do with the prison, though.

16. Kick from page 5.
Still hoping to find someone else who called or took part in that thread last year.

Does not mention prison by name, but it does point directly to prisoner abuse. One commander even says it will continue.

18. Yes, it is.
I can NOT find that other thread in the archives. I can find back to 2001, some in 2002 and 2003, but I can not find that. Search is disabled today in the archives.

When I called Warner's offices, I got near silence. The DC office was really busy, had trouble getting through.

They knew over a year ago that we were humiliating Iraqis that way, even in public. They ignored it.

19. Warner on MTP....did he mention his office was called last year?
About the abuses? By a lot of people here and on a mailing list I have. Probably others as well. I missed it, and just wondered if he happened to mention the fact that in April 25, 2003, our troops were shown doing this.....and he knew it.

21. I saw the MSNBC transcript with Warner saying we "must be careful."
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4938258

I guess he has been careful since April 25, 2003, as that is the date I called him.....and Graham and Nelson.
