1. they can't be in public - there would be protests
which would upstage the graduation ceremony

4. Yup
El Presidente will never appear before the American public, only before hand-picked audiences.

2. If I were in his place...
Edited on Fri May-07-04 11:47 AM by JHB
...aside from having a sane budget, no war in Iraq, and possibly still having the Twin Towers, I'd set up cameras at the graduation and have a direct feed to some place off-campus that I'd rented for the occasion (did I mention that "in his place" includes "had his money"?), so that I could "be there" as much as possible without putting the whole graduating class and their guests through a security wringer, and then have an after-graduation celebration at the rented place.

Of course, that's from someone who values education, and thinks it's worth celebrating.

3. really, it is better
than turning a graduation into a zoo and taking the focus off of the students.

5. Yes one of the most important events in any childs life and Bush*
choses not to attend. Even if I were to by your position that Bush* would cause a disruption so it's better he not attend why would Laura not want to attend? She certainly wouldn't cause such a commotion. I just think they aren't very good parents and don't really care about anything except themselves.
