1. What did you expect?

Our coward politicos will do nothing but Whitewash.

Once the Dems gave a blank check to Bush to wage war they gave up and ability to hold them accountable for anything.

3. More wasted tax payer dollars
The hearing should be by the American citizens on the members of Congress. All the bums need to be thrown out of office to clean up this country.

2. Aren't you being a little premature here?
I've heard some real tough questioning. Still waiting for the answers though...

5. Rummy is Stonewalling
Here are comments I just uploaded to my web site: www.earthside.com

Cover-Up!
Earthside, viewing the U.S. Senate hearing on the Iraq prisoner torture fiasco, can already conclude that stonewalling and a "modified limited hang-out" is underway. At least twice already Rumsfeld and Myers have been asked who was in charge of the guards at the Abu Ghraib prison. And they have said they cannot answer, they claim an investigation has started to find out who was in charge. We are expected to believe that the Secretary of Defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff cannot or did not ask for an answer to this critical question before they showed up today for this hearing? ... And one of the biggest enablers of this cover-up is Joe Lieberman.

Some, most Democrats, but including McCain, have tried to get answers to tough questions. But the Secretary of War, the radical Republicans, plus lap-dog Lieberman have just, as you say, cheerleading, for the Bush regime.

Jeez ....

6. My campaign manager and I were discussing this:
The committee would open with some softball questions:
Republican questioner: "Mr. Rumsfeld, what colour is your tie?"
2nd Repub. questioner: "Mr. Rumsfeld, can I kiss your shoes?"
Lone Democrat: "Mr. Rumsfeld! What are you doing about dis-"
3rd Repub. questioner: "Mr. Rumsfeld, please ignore this idiot..."

We felt that they would be quite gentle with him and the one person to ask anything serious would get cut off.

7. Just wait...

I agree that the hearings are NOT (on edit) going like I'd like. However, this event itself will have the effect of eroding more support for * and his minions.

During the last few months there has been a steady drip of damaging things coming to light about the squatter in our WH. In time it's effect will be that * gets sent back to TX.

9. They're all SO STUPID
Senators included. These people are running things? Senators are asking such general questions, there's no way anyone can answer them. And when they do ask a pointed question, Rumsfeld doesn't answer. And if he gets close to answering, Warner says "Time up." What a joke.

10. Rumdum struggling, confused, unresponsive
Edited on Fri May-07-04 12:38 PM by teryang
He is now failing to answer the question of why he personally failed to disclose the prison scandal/investigation.

"Mr. Secretary that's not what I said."

Just before he stuttered and acted confused about the status of detainees, interrogation and law enforcement functions. He either doesn't have a clue how to treat and process confined detainees or is deliberately lying.

He linked maintenance of detainees and needs of interrogation "to save lives." He is obviously behind the whole policy of mistreatment.

The Guantanomo facility is a violator of the Conventions also. There ought to be inquiries here as well. Rumsfeld drew "lessons from Guantanomo."

11. Rumsfeld admits he didn't appreciate
Edited on Fri May-07-04 12:57 PM by teryang
...the impact of known cases of prisoner abuse in late January or early February when he communicated this to the President.

He was "blindsided" like everyone else by the firestorm created by the publication of the pictures. He claims his first knowledge of the pictures was when they appeared in the press.

This shows their real standards. It isn't the actual war crimes and Conventions violations, it's the pictures, it's the PR. He views it as a public relations problem, so does Myers, not a war crimes problem reflecting on policy, leadership, organization, morale, and the ultimate outcome of the war effort.

There's an old saying in the prosecution and defense business:

GET THE BAD NEWS OUT FIRST. Anything else impairs credibility. At this point Myers and Rumsfeld and the chimp have no credibility with the rest of the world.
