Why were the torture pics taken?
Was it just for the soldiers amusement, or did they receive orders from higher up? Maybe their fascist masters wanted proof they were really working over the A-rabs?

1. I read or heard somewhere
that the photos were to be used to intimidate other detainees.

5. So the plan was to spread them around Iraq and possibly Afghanistan
prisons? If so, it would seem that these acts and the picture taking were official Pentagon policy. They had a practical usefulness for military interrogation purposes. That sounds like something everyone from the pResident to the lower level commandos would have been aware of.

2. Obviously for entertainment...
... so they could pass them around. "Dude, check out these pictures!" That sort of thing.

3. Kind of reminds me of Nixon's tapes...
Why would he record things he said that were so incriminating? Because he thought only the "good side" of his words would ever see--or hear, in his case--the light of day. Same mentality with these pics, I'll bet; their takers--and the photographers' COs--never figured they'd get beyond the DOD intel people. Soooooooooo much for THAT stupid idea!:eyes:

B-)

"Man, you will never believe this shit! Seriously! Look what we got to do in Iraq! It rules over here!!"

The only frat-prank here was committed by the guys taking the photos for their idiot friends back home. :puke:

7. Because merely abusing them lost its NOVELTY value.
The attention span of an average American is getting shorter and shorter ... and these guards are no exception. Entertainment. Approval (from their Beavis and Butthead friends.)

9. Was bush punked by the CIA?
I was thinking that someone must have wanted those pictures to get out, that's why there was so many of them, that's why they were taken in the first place. CIA doesn't reveal secrets if it doesn't want to. The photos just might do the job that we all hope for. They might be holding a grudge from the outing of Plame.

10. BULLSHIT......MPs always do this
They hold information on each other so they can't rat on each other.

Just like when i was in and the MPS would take pictures of each other smoking pot so they could not rat on each other. They knew they were doing some thing wrong

12. I Don't Believe For A Second
That Bush only saw the pics recently. This is the type of sadistic, homoerotic stuff that he really gets off on. I'd be willing to bet he saw those pics and loved them and got lots of laughs and sexual gratification from those images. And not just him. I bet they went up the chain of command just for shits and giggles. Just my gut feeling...

One can imagine *'s comments:

"He-hee...look at this one! Oh, please don't put a dog collar on me! This one's funny...the guy's not only wearing ladies undies, he's got 'em on his head...and on backwards! He's smellin' poopie! Hey, look at this guy on ice! That's one way to stay cool in Iraq. Yee-haw! When do we get the videos...and can we get 'em on DVD? How about the PlayStation game? I hope it's a FPS version!!"

14. Why did the Nazis tape their atrocities?
Why did bush agree to sit down with Woodward for his latest book?

Why? Because those absolutely corrupted by power believe their own PR and in their own invincibility and righteousness.

I'd even venture the guess that these videos and pix were taken specifically to send *to bush & rummy* so the interrogators in Iraq could prove to bushco that they were carrying out their directives to get info out of the prisoners.

22. It was "a competition" (really!)
Mr al-Baz claims the guards at the prison were keen to take photographs of the abuse and turned it into a competition.

"They were enjoying taking photographs of the torture. There was a daily competition to see who could take the most gruesome picture.

"The winner's photo would be stuck on a wall and also put on their laptop computers as a screensaver.

24. I think it's important to note
since I'm the mother of a 20-yr. old Marine headed for Baghdad this month, that this generation of troops has a very different mindset on images and privacy than many of us do. These young people have grown up with constant video, TIVO, cell phones, DVDs. CDs, iChat, picture phones, text messaging, and laptops. When my kids were teenagers they'd come home from being with their friends, still talking on their cell phones to their friends, and fire-up the computer to chat online with their friends. Constant access. Constant communication. Plus, these young people have been videotaped themselves, by their parents, coaches, schools, security cameras at the mall, and each other to the extent that it's second nature. It's accepted to document everything you do. Everything. Just like Reality TV. We older folks who, supposedly, are running things better get a grip. There is no secrecy. There is no hiding dirty deeds. Rummy and Bush haven't been paying attention. Maybe Bush should attend the twins' graduations. He ought to learn a little more about the thinking of younger people. These soldiers documented what they did because they're always documenting what they do. Even the horrible stuff.

25. Tell your son
God/dess', Jehovah's, Allah's, G-d's-speed and may he return safely.

As for your analysis of our youth (I have 23 and 20 year-old daughters), I believe that you are spot on. As for dumbass going to his daughter's graduations...why should he...he "...doesn't care what think".
