Poll question: DU Pool Poll - How Long Will Rummy Last as SecDef?
I admit, I didn't think he was touchable, but after readin Talking Points Memo's last 48 hours of posts, reconsider.

1. Josh marshall explained: if removed, a bit of good press will be
replaced by hearings to approve a new one - a new opportunity for bad publicity. Considering the way they think, this is crucial.

something tells me Rummy's gotta be in an underground bunker come Memorial Day. * cannot afford to have him presiding over any of the grand ceremonies.

5. Imagine trying to get Wolfowitz of Arabia
confirmed, or Doug Feith, as a run-up to the election. Carl Rove's worst nightmare.

2. I don't know how long

But each second is one too many : his reputation here was bad before all this (old Europe, axis of , ...) but now it is subterranean.
As an foreigner I can assure you: the damage Rummy is doing right now to the image of the USA far outweights any previous blunder by the *Administration.
I can not fathom how much worse it must be in the Arab world.

4. I think he's out in the next week
and election day is the first tuesday after the first Monday in November. This year that means it's the first Tuesday.

7. longer than any category you put there

Option 1)
long enough to get a promotion but still be in charge of the military. How would that happen, you ask? Easy: if the U.S. is subjected to a horrible attack which craters multiple cities, we will refuse to surrender. The plan is to dissolve the Constitution and set up independent military districts. ("We can't surrender because we're not the U.S. any more")

Option 2)
If Bush wins again, he will do what's needed to get Jeb elected next. Take more control of the media, the voting methods, etc.) Rumsfeld can stay in office until he croaks, if that's the way it goes.

8. He's not going anywhere
He's the only PNACer who has the balls to tell congress to get fucked and get away with it. They LOVE him. He's perfect to be master of the war machine. He will finish conquering the M.E. in the next four years, if Kerry doesn't light a fire and get his act in gear.

9. oh, I don't know anymore
You should see that part of the Nelson Report TPM carried. I think Rummy's fucked. And I think Bush is fucked, too.

11. Murkins just love brutal warmongers
Have you seen todays polls?

Or, more appropriatley, today's headlines: "Rumsfeld apologizes, takes responsibility".

So its all just a big "oops" and all is well.

Who are they gonna appoint in his place? Wolfowitz???? He would fucking melt from the heat.

They need a true denizen of hades like Rumsfeld to take point on their conquest of the M.E., with enablers like Lieberman to help him along.

10. Election Day
is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November - this year it happens to be the first Tuesday November 2nd....but in 2005 if you have an election every year like we do in VA it will be the second Tuesday or November 8 because the first Monday in November is November 7th....so have I confused you yet...
