Anybody watch NewsHour today? Mark Shields was absolutely

devastated. He said it did not matter if Rumsfeld left or stayed, the damage to our image in the world, the psyche of the nation, and the morale of the troops (he mentioned that he visited the wounded at the hospital) are irreparably damaged.
Brooks said that we had a generous and compassionate reason for going into Iraq (where is this guy living?????) and that cleaning this situation and being open about it would remedy the damage. Shields did not let him get away with it. Both Brooks and Shields agreed that this war was conducted by totally inept people. And that is what the called them: INEPT and INCAPABLE people.

1. Yes, and I think Shields is probably right.

The only good that may come from this is that * might decide that it's not practical to try to establish an empire when we don't have enough forces, we've run out of forces, and absolutely no one in the world will help us.

I do think our image is irreparably damaged. I'm even humiliated by this, I hardly know how I can talk to my foreign friends.

2. Shields brought some class to that program

the rest of the pundits, including the historians on the previous segment, were having way too much fun. They seemed to forget they were talking about torture. Shields showed the proper seriousness, and Lehrer and Brooks looked like they were shamed into adopting the same tone.

is a good perhaps too good counter balance for the likes of david brooks. Shields was great as always but he seemed sad? he seemed sad for his country, any else feel that?

10. Be sure to watch Shields on the Capital Gang (CNN) Tomorrow

He's always great and Margaret Carlson and Al Hunt aren't too bad also. The best part is he or Al almost always beats up on Robert Novak. It's on at 7 p.m. and repeats at 4 am EST.
