It's the Wages (Losing) v. Inflation (Winning) Stupid!
Edited on Fri May-07-04 09:03 PM by JanMichael
To hell with the bogus job growth numbers, the real issue is that wages in America are now, for the first time in ages it seems, growing slower than Inflation! That's partly because the new jobs being "created" are generally replacing lost jobs that paid more. So now we've got the chimp riding around bragging about lower paying, lower benefits, and worse health-coverage jobs?

Fuck him and the cheney he rode in on.

3. It's hard to believe any of the rosy numbers coming out of this
administration. So many lies from them, how do we know the truth of anything?

The unemployment numbers don't even count folks I know who are trying to find jobs something comperable to what they worked their whole lives for but got "downsized or outsourced." They weren't qualified for "unemployment" because they got "packages," but the packages ran out a long time ago. Now it's home equity loans and trying to scrimp by.

We don't here about this on the news. It's all about how great the economy is coming back...:-(

6. I think it may be difficult for a news show to say: Welcome to Feudalism!
For one nobody will believe it, for two it suggests that alternative arrangements may be desirable.

9. Ah but monopoly capitalism is but a softer form of feudalism.
Or so it appears. The beauty of it is the capitalists blame the problems on the workers. Here's an example:

"The high wages we have to pay unionized workers in the U.S. has forced us to move our operations to _________, which has a more favorable regulatory climate."

Of course I am just speaking to the choir.

4. PLUS, last months 300M jobs-80% were part time
what's the deal with that this month?

Do jobs add by Man Power and other temp companies count at job increases? They are added jobs, but they are Temporary!

5. Inflation is a lot worse than they're telling us, too.
Gas, health care, housing, groceries--all skyrocketing, but they adjusted the index to exclude those fast-rising items & give bogus numbers. In addition to just looking better, the low numbers mean they don't have to adjust SS upward.

7. Don't tell my idiot freeper neighbor that...she believes that
if you are a "professional"...that working longer hours for less pay is an honor...so long as you have your precious title...

I am making less today than I was four years ago because of rising healthcare costs and little or no raises.

10. Is she a "professional"?
Does her precious title pay for her expenses?

8. You hit that one right on the head. Bill Moyers discussed this on NOW
tonight. I have been following these trends since the mid 1990s. It is scary stuff. I don't see an end to it either so long as multinational corporations care only about shareholders.
