"Apt Pupil", Stephen King novella speaks to the current news.

The main character, an young all-American suburban boy inadvertently becomes aware of a Nazi war criminal (concentration camp commander) in hiding in his neighborhood, and blackmails him into telling him stories about the concentration camp. He becomes obssessed with these horrors and it ultimately destroys his life.

His worst fantasies are filled with images of rape and torture. He refers to this as "The gooshy stuff", the things that aren't ever mentioned in the history books or on TV. But they are always there, in the background, nonetheless.

I feel we've just started to get a glimpse into this stuff, because of technology and the availability of these photos. I fear there's a lot more "gooshy stuff" coming our way.
