Kerry Cluephone... Get rid of your political strategists!
If you continue using rhetoric like this in your campaign speeches,
you're leaving us with the perception of arrogance and speak as if victory is a foregone conclusion!

In ignoring the pulse of the People, you will have forsaken us, rather than rescuing us!

From JK's speech in Phoenix, May 7th.:

Shedding Populist Tone, Kerry Starts Move to Middle

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/08/politics/campaign/08KERR.html

"He added that the nation needed not just a new defense secretary, but a new president, "one who is strong enough to take responsibility and, when necessary, correct course."

better words should have been couched for the above statement...Bush hasn't even been formally implicated yet..and Rumsfeld is far from being removed..

"Mr. Kerry also sharply rebuked Mr. Bush's foreign policy as a whole, saying that America's military strength may be at a peak but that its moral authority is at a nadir."

...nadir? The only Nadir I know is Ralph!

"America wasn't put here to dominate the world," Mr. Kerry said. "We have a higher calling: to lead it."

..Our calling has always been as a benevolent democracy. And after the Bush fiasco we'll be lucky to ever be thought of as benevolent to any nation.

1. I don't have the same problem with Mr Kerry's comments as you...
He's trying to win an election and get rid of the dictator.

2. I interpret this differently
"He added that the nation needed not just a new defense secretary, but a new president, "one who is strong enough to take responsibility and, when necessary, correct course."

This is a call for the voters to get rid of the entire group that is leading the nation to destruction. States he believes himself strong enough to change that course.

"Mr. Kerry also sharply rebuked Mr. Bush's foreign policy as a whole, saying that America's military strength may be at a peak but that its moral authority is at a nadir."

I see nothing wrong with using nadir. And, the individual you are referring to is Nader (I know, you knew that).

"America wasn't put here to dominate the world," Mr. Kerry said. "We have a higher calling: to lead it."

This could be interpreted many ways; morally, scientifically, politically, but the meaning still makes sense. I think it is a good sentence. Based upon the perception and focus of the listener at the time, it will resonate in many ways.

6. well, DUH! Everyone knows you're not alone!
...but that really doesn't mean anything, does it?

I guess it means as much as me saying, "Yeah, but you're in the minority..."

7. I guess it is your opinion.
Personally, I like his statements. He's clearly using the language to convey confidence and authority. I rather like it.

8. I appreciate a leader who can actually USE the language properly
If you have problems with words like "nadir" (a perfectly good word and properly used in the context), well, all I can say is you've gotten too used to the Village Idiot Bush*.

9. Well, Thanks for demonstrating yet another method for losing voters..
No one said the word wasn't good and proper.

I'll mention that to the folks dying on the battlefield.
