Anybody listened to "This is Hell" today? Iraq correspondent: IT IS OVER.
Dahr Jamail (http://blog.newstandardnews.net/iraqdispatches/), Baghdad correspondent for the Internet journal The NewStandard, Jamail was in Fallujah last month and will be reported live from Baghdad.
He had a scathing review of the United States actions in Iraq. The Iraqis want us out. Even the Shiites are saying the prefer Saddam to the US because Saddam was not a hypocrite, provided safe streets, and he was an Iraqi. Essentially, why would the want to have another torturer who is not even one of them.

2. Second great lie of the administration.
The first was that there were WMD in Iraq and that they posed and critical and immediate threat to the United States.

The second was that we could wage a humane war that would leave both the Iraqis and the US better off. This was to be the neocons great demonstration that a modern, technologically waged war was just another tool in the diplomatic tool box. It would be a way to project American power and would allow us lead the world into a glorious new age of Pax Americana.

But, of course, war is never without great suffering and upheaval and once started, even the very wise cannot foresee how it will end.

3. But I just want the US out NOW. For a while, I thought we needed
to TRY to repair some of the destruction we caused. Now I know that is not possible.

we're going to run out of money before we can get completely ensconced in that country.

This week, Bush is going back to Congress to ask for $25 billion more in funding this mess. So far, we've spent $160 billion. The Pentagon raised its estimates to $4.9 billion per month.

It seems that the resistance fighters are making it more costly for us. Add in the contractors (aka mercenaries) who we're paying $30,000.00 per month to be there. We've currently got 20,000 on the govt. payroll. There's talk of bringing in more troops.

It's simply impossible to continue spending this kind of money on Iraq. Nations have gone bankrupt in the past, trying to wage wars that they couldn't afford.

And let's face it, things didn't get cheaper in the meantime.

11. Yeah but Biden (and Lugar, but Lugar is republican) WANTED to give
them the money. On TV both of them begged Bush to ask for the money and promised it would be approved immediately because we cannot afford to lose!!!!! Biden is one of the people that should not be representing us.

5. There was a blogger quoted today in DU that said: Just get out. He
might have stopped reporting now that he sees what the invasion is really like.

13. Anytime!
I just got through mowing the lawn in the midday heat, and can barely type. I was a little fuzzy headed while typing my reply. Didn't even notice at first it was a different blogger!
