I'm trying to decide which is easier to explain to the kiddos:

Humilation and torture by an occupying power whose final remaining excuse for invasion was to protect the citizens from human rights abuses of their dictator we propped for decades; or,

A sex act in the Oval Office by two consenting adults, one of which is president.

Nevermind. I think I figured it out.

1. As a pastor when Clinton was President, I got all sorts of "requests"

to preach on "What Should We Tell the Children?" with the older children sitting right in the pew with their parents.

Wonder if pastors are getting these "requests" now...How do you explain that torture is made possible and encouraged by the administration? Where's their moral compass?

Prisoners have a special place in the Bible, as people to whom compassion must be shown.

2. Excellent point. A friend of mine

who lurks here every day is a lay minister in a mainstream denomination, and I know he has attended to the spiritual needs of the imprisoned on numerous occasions. It's a shame these scriptures and "commandments" of Christ were forgotten.

3. I've been thinking the exact same thing

When the Monica episode hit the fan, all you could hear anywhere you went was, "oh whatever shall we tell the chiiiiilllllldrennnnnnn?" Mr. Sleepyhead and I are childless, but if we did have children it would be *much* easier for us to explain consensual sex than the complete dehumanization of people who have the misfortune of belonging to another culture. But that's just me, I guess.
