Welcome to DU. Don't be shy mate, tell us what you think, jump right in here and speak up. For example, are you implying here that the treatment of Iraqi POW's is an intentional ruse, to direct attention from the 9/11 investigations? Interesting idea. Seems a bit lacking in all honesty, but interesting nonetheless. No worries, have one on me. :beer:

The Christian religion is founded on pain and suffering. Part of the religion is to spread the word. Only it does not really define which word. Hence the spreading of pain and suffering in the name of Christ.

6. Uh, no. Christianity was founded on one man's sacrifice...
Jesus sacrificed Himself to wash away the sins of (Hu)mankind, to take them with Him into death and give us a fresh start. It isn't about the pain and suffering of His crucifiction, it's about His gift to and love for us. I'm not Christian (not by a long shot...I'm of Taoist persuasion), but even I understand this about their faith.

The people who do terrible things in the name of God are doing them in the name of vindictive, blood-thirsty false gods, not in the name of God the Creator, in the name of Jesus, in the name of Allah, in the name of Buddha etc.

i support your observation.
but i must also confess -- that far too many christians have been obsessed with images and words of the faith that lead to legalism, sadism, narcisism, etc. -- the emphasis needs to be brought around again that to be christian is a spiritual path, journey.
and absolutes are false gods, graven images if you will.
