With enough continued crime and fear, this could happen. What will the Bushies do then, scale the heights of paternalistic bullying and say that we know what's best for them?
Let's recap the "war":
Nobody came voicing fears of WMDs or Iraqi aggression; by all accounts, it was the administration that sought crap that could be used to gin up some fear.
There was no connection with 9-11, and they knew about that well before the war; stalling the publication of the joint report until after the invasion is ample proof of that.
There was no Al-Queda connection; Hussein was on Bin Laden's hit list. We did Osama's dirty work for him, while also helping him recruit.
The people didn't greet us as liberators, and the oil isn't paying for the occupation.
Life is not better than before; electricity is only now up to pre-war levels, sewage is a health hazard and violent crime and property crimes are rampant when they had been virtually nonexistent.
The rape rooms aren't closed; they're just under new management.
Chalabi's uncontrollable, the rest of the council is hated, there's no "government" to pass the torch to and there's no real possibility of a stable anything other than dictatorship in the near future.
We're so hated that anything we do is exceedingly difficult and apt to backfire at any juncture.
It's pretty much a clean sweep, doncha think? We didn't have to do it, they don't want us, it's not better for them, it's not proving our butchness to the rest of the world, we're vulnerable to other opportunistic attacks because we're "all in", we're cramming Evangelists down their throats, we're draining our economy, we're lying through our teeth about every one of these things and everyone with a whiff of sense knows it.
Not bad for a part-time President and a bionic Veep.
What if we get a real-live poll that states that the Iraqis would prefer Saddam? That'll take some spinning.
It's bad enough that we suck, but what's really bad is that we suck so badly.
