Norman "Duke" Duquette was threatened with guns, beaten routinely and exposed to conditions that left him near death as a prisoner of war in North Korea during the early 1950s.

Still, the photos from an Iraqi prison, including one showing naked prisoners piled atop one another, bothered the retired Air Force lieutenant colonel.

"A lot of times I was in solitary confinement and that sort of thing, and there was some physical mistreatment such as slapping, kicking and hitting with a stick," said Duquette, of Cedar Falls, a pilot who spent 20 months as a prisoner during the Korean War. "But there was no sexual activity of the kind portrayed there in Iraq."
