Loss of Face? Pride?

Brain washed, Influenced to the point of Closed Mind?

Myopic?

Peer Pressure?

Church Pressure?

Analytical Judgement Impaired?

Unable to see the Failures of Bush and his Team?

They know there's nothing there, as far as Bush is concerned. They know he's not capable of doing anything, making policy or following through on anything. He's not really there. He's just a hologram, or an image which they can work with.

If you analyze it, you'll discover that this country has been driving, but with no one at the wheel for 3 1/2 years.

21. My parents support Bush
and for the life of me, I can't figure out why.

The only explanation is pride. I think it has something to do with Bush being sold as the anti-Clinton. Nobody likes being suckered, but the right has so much invested in their shoddy product, the Bush administration, that they have no choice but to defend him until the end. Until they admit that Clinton wasn't nearly as bad as portrayed by the media, they'll never admit that they made a mistake voting for Bush.

35. I disagree
If Clark were the nominee, they'd have invented--and, with the help of the SCLM, disseminated--some sort of meme about Clark that would be as damaging as the faux medals scandal or flip-flop images.

That's what they do. THey did it to Gore, they're doing it to Kerry. They even did it to McCain.

They started on Clark; remember, he was a dangerous megalomaniac? Remember they dragged up a few men who served under him to appear and say he was arrogant and irresponsible? And trust me, that same bunch will be out in force--along with the "Swift boaters against Kerry" or whoever--if and when Clark becomes the VP.

Their strategies obviously work. We have Democrats and Liberals fretting about Kerry's flip-flop problem instead of attacking the source of the bulls--t.

53. it may be true that they...
...would have invented stories about Wes Clark. But the underlying knee-jerk image of liberalism does not exist in Clark's past.

Look, tens of millions of red-staters will vote AGAINST Kerry, not for Bush. It's a vote against all they despise about liberalism.

Clark doesn't have that past to vote against.

For those who are partisans, voting against the party is like siding with those that hate you. Imagine what it would take to get some of us to vote FOR bush. . . . it's just not gonna happen. . . . The bright side is that maybe 20% of citizens, maybe less are true partisans. . . . The rest dont really give a damn about politics & only pay attention every couple of years . . . easier to get 50 of those votes than it is to convert one true believer from the other side

an us versus them mentality in our own country. You're either
with us or you're unpatriotic. You're either with us or
you support the terrorists. Once someone very strongly choses a side in what they believe is a big battle it is hard to make
another decision. The right has set things up for it to be intentionally hard to leave the pack. Cognitive dissonance is a factor too. I would wager that people will stay home rather than
change their minds. I'm OK with that, by the way.

But its most important for Kerry is to lay out some very good ideas and plans for the Present and Future that encourages the Non Voters to come and speak of their choices. Kerry must make a strong Appeal to them, for the sake of our Nation and our children.

36. The cognitive dissonance is so bizarre
Was just asking the in-laws why they can still support Bush after everything. They are not religious, so that's not the reason. They said my sister-in-law will stay home and not vote. Her husband says he hates apathy, so he will vote for Bush and my in-laws say they will too. They say they cannot vote for Kerry. They listen to Fox and believe lies about his purple heart.

They see the problems with Bush, but feel the Democrats are worse. I believe they have been brainwashed because they cannot come up with one reason why Kerry is bad besides lies about his war record or made-up thing about France. They have wrong information about everything, it's like an alternative reality. They say Kerry and Bush are equally bad and nobody can fix anything, so they will vote Bush.

I said, "Do you want a one-party state? Don't you want two parties and checks and balances in the government?" They said that they did, but they will still vote for Bush. My husband's brother spent two hours last night and we spent an hour today trying to convince them, but they just enjoy hating Democrats too much. The weird thing is they will admit to all the horrible things Bush has done and said, but they act like they are helpless to vote otherwise because they say the Democrats are worse. But yet, they can't give one reason why Kerry would be worse.

So I agree with many reasons given here - willful ignorance, pride and brainwashing.

When will the Fans of this Bush Team decide Losing is not Winning?

The Bush Guys have lost every time they get the damn football. Scores reflect huge losses.

Lost Seasons 4 years in a row and its getting worse.

Many of the Stepford Pubs leaving the Stadium early as they refuse to witness the final score. BushCo 3 points Common Sense and Reality, 9687635475867.02 points.

but my mother clings to Bush because he pretends to share her extremely limited set of black-and-white morals. And because his statements and actions support everything she was programmed to believe as a child during WWII - i.e., America is the best country in the world and everything it does is good. And people of other races are basically inferior and not to be trusted. Add everything she was programmed to believe as an adult in the Mormon church, and Bush is bulletproof in her eyes.

from: Extraordinary Popular Delusions And The Madness Of Crowds
By Charles MacKay

1841

"We see one nation suddenly seized, from its highest to its lowest members, with a fierce desire of military glory; another as suddenly becoming crazed upon a religious scruple, and neither of them recovering its senses until it has shed rivers of blood and sowed a harvest of groans and tears, to be reaped by its posterity."

"Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one."

Utah, Texas, much of the South, the "critical mass" reinforces itself in times of doubt like this. So you see that even with all the crappy news about Iraq, (no one is pretending it's good, even here in Dallas) you still see/hear people "reinforcing" each other about shrub and in their Kerry bashing. The enthusiasm is markedly less than before, but it's still a shrub vote at this point.

66. My ex-Repub view, for what it's worth
It's tough to come to the realization that what you've held to be true really isn't. So you look at this as a "temporary problem." Because Bush is still closer to what you believe ideologically than anyone else.

It's tough to look at the left as a reasonable alternative when the left has been demonized by people you used to admire, and by some you still do admire.

Some folks won't change their opinion because they just won't. Other s will vote for Bush as a "lesser of two evils". Many others still think he is right just as passionately as you think he is dangerous and misguided. Those folks you won't change. IT would be like Paul Wellstone becoming a Republican--it just wouldn't happen.

74. Same thing that drives ABB
A lot of dems don't agree with Kerry. A lot of former Nader voters from 2000 don't want to vote for Bush OR Kerry. Though they will vote Kerry because they realize what is at stake.

Same thing for the repubs. They don't really like Bush, but sure as hell don't like Kerry either. They are thinking the same way the ABB people are. "Damn, Bush upsets me. Why hasn't he brought about armageddon yet, killed all the arabs, and made me rich? Still, I don't want that Kerry bastard in that's for sure. Guess I shouldn't vote libertarian"

Pretty simple actually. They are in the same boat the ABB people are in, just on the different side.

things in a grand manner.

The Pubs like to use this aspect to appeal to those not understanding of our basic system. And so, even while knowing cutting taxes will have a negative long term effect, they do it cause the short term effect is always rosey.

Try getting $100,000.00 from a second mortgage, Buy new clothes, new cars, new toys, vacations, look good throwing parties, etc but when the time comes

we still gatta pay the monthly bill. In the mean time, till its all repaid, interest payments are due. This is high school stuff and if we don't know it by now, then the Govt should have courses to teach it once more.

Like in Civics 101

A pug exixting in the filter of Faux, Rush, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin, et al, can go for days -- weeks, even -- without having his fearful viewpoints challenged **once**.

And at the same time, their core ideas -- war is good, peace is treasonous, corporate greed benefits everyone, religion belongs in government, etc., etc., are being reinforced constantly -- via talk radio, via right-wing cable outlets and neo-con Internet sites.

They are also specifically told repeatedly that * is a "great leader."

They are most comfortable being stuck in that media-imposed fantasy of "the-world-is-against-me" --

When Clinton became President, a group of right wingers decided he was not legit...he was on the wrong side of the culture wars.

And they got worse & worse & worse till they impeached him.

Then we got Bush. Their answer to Bill clinton; the opposite of everything Clinton.

Now, Bush is a failure, & many of them know it, but they do not care.
He is still NOT BILL CLINTON.

That is why when things go wrong, they blame Clinton, even though Bush has been in charge for almost 4 years.

And this all has been brewing for years because there are 2 Americas.
