Petition ignites the Internet
LOS ANGELES – An impassioned appeal was made today to Senator John Kerry by author and political activist Arianna Huffington and veteran Democratic campaign strategist Joe Trippi. They are asking him to “Go Big, Ask More!” a rallying cry that asks Kerry to become the strong, dynamic, inspirational leader Americans are longing for. In an effort to transcend the, now typical, voter’s dilemma of choosing between the “lesser of two evils,” the duo has launched an online petition drive calling on Sen. Kerry to offer a bold moral vision of what America can be, and to revitalize the optimism that’s lying dormant in our country. “John Kerry has the biography, the leadership experience, and the authority to be the candidate and the president the country so urgently needs,” said Huffington.
“Let Bush run on the platform of September 11th and the politics of fear. Kerry should own September 12th – the spirit of generosity and community that poured forth in the aftermath of the attacks – and the politics of hope. He needs to listen to the people, and the people, in turn, need to speak out now when it really matters,” continued Huffington, author of the recent FANATICS & FOOLS: THE GAME PLAN FOR WINNING BACK AMERICA.
Former Dean campaign manager Joe Trippi added, “The people aren’t asking for much. They want a candidate who is unafraid to ask more of the American people; someone who isn’t going to play it safe to get those supposed votes in the middle but will instead campaign on a broad vision of what America can be if we all do our part.”
The online petition, which can be found at www.fanaticsandfools.org/petition, asks Senator Kerry to reach out to the 50 percent of eligible voters who did not vote in 2000 and will not vote in 2004 unless he speaks to their concerns. Thousands have already asked Kerry to “Go Big, Ask More!” in the hope that he will harness the sense of an American community that came forth in the aftermath of 9/11.
