I just got an email for this and thought I'd share it. If any DU'ers in the NYC area it looks like it could be a lot of fun. Good bands and good stuff all for an excellent cause!! Here's the email I received:
Hello Friends, Matty Charles & the Valentines are gonna play this benefit. Come check it out. There's good bands, a raffle and all the money goes to getting that bum outa the White House.
WHAT: CitizenChange presents a rollicking live auction, raffle, and rock show to raise money to help defeat George W. Bush this year.
The auction will be called by certified auctioneer Lulu Savage and includes items such as tattoo work, guitar lessons from local music heroes, yoga classes, designer clothes, dinners, a guided sailing trip around Raritan Bay and much, much more. Original artworks will be available through a silent auction.
The evening features musical sets by Nada Surf, Northern State, Matty Charles and the Valentines, and Jason Trachtenburg with special appearance by the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, and other secret guests we can¹t announce. Admission is $20 and includes entry into a raffle for items like gift certificates to local bars, signed books and CD¹s and a homemade cardamom cake.
WHEN: Wednesday, May 12. Doors open at 7 PM, bands start at 8 PM
WHERE: The club Northsix 66 North 6th Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
WHO: CitizenChange is a newly formed political action committee (PAC) composed of about a dozen busy but highly motivated New York City residents whose primary goal, at the moment, is to defeat George W. Bush this November. We¹re teachers, writers, fashion designers, book conservators, engineers, small business owners and all-around concerned citizens, hoping to see the United States back on course as a place that values free expression, civil rights, international cooperation, and justice in all its forms.
WHY: Across the country, large and small groups of citizens are organizing to reclaim the White House from an administration that has failed to make good on its promises. Jobs have been lost under George W. Bush, not gained. The world is less secure now than when he took office, not safer. The U.S. has alienated its allies around the world through arrogance and unilateralism, not won friends with a humble but strong foreign policy. What promises has this administration kept? Rolling back abortion rights, fighting equality for gays and lesbians, appointing right-wing judges to powerful court positions and chipping away at the constitutional separation between church and state.
CitizenChange is one of hundreds of groups that have sprung up in the last three years to turn back the tide of non-compassionate conservatism.
Proceeds from the event will support John Kerry for President, voter registration program Swing State Summer Break and other electoral groups. Contact: citizenchangenyc@hotmail.com
