I'm not in total agreement with this column, but I thought it was thought-provoking.
------------
When the United States starts acting like the very oppressors it has overthrown, it is time to come home. When the United States fails to value Iraqis as human beings, it is time to come home.
We see Iraqi prisoners brutally and sadistically tortured.
We learn of other Iraqi prisoners herded into prison to rot, their whereabouts unknown to their terrified and grieving families outside. We watch, agonized, as inquiries multiply about soldiers lawlessly murdering Iraqis.
You would think we were describing the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein. Well, not exactly. This is how the supposed liberators of the people of Iraq have also been acting. This is the democracy we are supposedly bringing to Iraqis hungering for freedom from a tyrant. We are behaving just like the “bad guy" we deposed. Is this really America?
