video of rev moon crowned as Messiah in US senate building
Monday, May 03, 2004
Pictures from bejeweled crowning of the Wash. Times publisher at Senate office building
"We have no king but Jesus." -- John Ashcroft (quoting someone else)

That didn't take long. After members of Congress invited Sun Myung Moon into the Dirksen Senate Office Building Mar. 23 (as covered exclusively on this blog; here's the impressive guest list), where he crowned himself was crowned the Messiah, his movement was quick to incorporate images of the event in this movie about Moon's accomplishments. It's the best footage yet of this remarkable Washington Times event.

First, there's a shot of Congress, emphasizing that this is the peak of the Times publisher's glory:

1. I'm trying to catch up here..
What is this Rev. Moon all about now?

I'm reading on the blog and seeing that some representatives actually buy into this crap and that more than a few of the supposedly Christian Right Wingers are supporting this guy and his theories.

So much for courting the Christians... oh wait they'll never know.

Anything people can fill me in as to the background and power of this Moon guy?

2. Sun Myung Moon says he's the next Messiah...
...and he's got enough money to get powerful people to agree with him.

He's given oodles to the Bushes, plus many other US politicians.

6. And UPI
and a crapload of large commercial interests, like munitions, fisheries, pharmaceuticals, etc. He's purported to have had CIA connections going back to the 50s. A real nasty piece of work.

5. Founder of the Unification Church
if I'm not mistaken. Multi-millionaire if not billionaires. Obviously talks a good talk. He preaches to the right of even the most conservative religions. His followers tend to lead a cult-like, if not all out cult, lifestyle.

4. This more than fills one's minimum daily requirement for...
... weirdness.

That guest list is probably a Who's Who of those who want to turn this country into a theocracy. Hmmm. Lindsay Graham's on the list....

This just goes to show that the smell of money is an aphrodesiac more powerful than standing up for values.

9. Oh man
you've got to see this guy's april blog http://www.gorenfeld.net/blog//2004_04_01_barchive.html

What kind of ex-felon is "coronated" by elected officials?(in senate office buildings no less) (Here's the guest list.) The kind of someone who just unveiled an ambitious new plan to promote heterosexuality through nudity:

The part about rangel is pretty shocking:
Here's Charlie Rangel's signed proclamation on his letterhead honoring Sun Myung Moon, who's called for the U.S. Constitution to be scrapped and American individualism squashed -- a gentleman identified in Time magazine as a "megalomaniac," and known for public speeches with such sentiments as, "Satan is clinging to our sexual organs," and calling gay people "dirty dung-eating dogs."

11. Charles Black really stands out
Edited on Mon May-10-04 01:25 AM by slaveplanet

Let's take a closer look at the "invitational committee" listed for Rev. Moon's March 23 address, when the pleasure of his company at the Dirksen Senate Office Building was requested, and Moon informed assorted Congressmen and others that he was the Messiah. In tiny print:

Why, it's Mr. Charles Black, the ultimate Republican insider! A strategist in the Bush Sr. and Reagan campaigns, he's chairman of BKSH & Associates -- a public relations firm which represents Ahmed Chalabi, of the Iraqi exiles. From the Seattle Times:

BKSH & Associates, whose chairman, Charles Black Jr., played key roles in the campaigns of Bush and his father, gained valuable contacts when it represented the Iraqi National Congress, an alliance of Iraqi exiles opposed to the government of Saddam Hussein, many of whom now hold power in the provisional government set up by the United States.

This is some sort of satire, RIGHT?
Please, someone tell me this is a joke.
Right?
I mean this CAN'T be for real
It simply can't.

14. Was thinking the same thing.
This is definitely 10/10 on the weirdness scale. Right off the creepiness scale. Moon is a crazy bastard for sure, but something doesn't seem right about it. This Gorenfeld guy has got quite an interest in Moon going all the way back to his first archived blog entry (Sept 2003).

23. Of course I've got "quite an interest in Moon"
Edited on Tue May-11-04 10:21 AM by jgorenfeld
And it's all completely backed up by links to mainstream news organizations and Moon's own publications. The reason I still have such an interest in it is that every mainstream news editor is so blase about this graft I keep digging up. I'm going to continue until they pay serious attention.

But I have no ulterior motive other than muckraking.

:)

16. I don't know.
It's so over to the top it's almost incomprehensible. I'm having trouble believing it's not some kind of hoax. Unfortunately, a Google search showed it's getting lots of attention in the blog world, but nothing to indicate it isn't real yet. Maybe time to write the Congressmen who were present and question them on it directly (not that we're likely to get any kind of straight answer).

which leads me to think it IS real.
If it were a hoax, why would they censor it?
Okay, I am now officially freaked out.

18. What company do you work for?
If you don't mind my asking. Curious as to what company would have an interest in censoring that. Could just be that the sex filter caught one of Moon's many "love organ" remarks.

If you're talking to about the video, maybe your network doesn't allow Internet streaming.

19. I don't work for a company-
We are strictly independent agents,
the husband and I. Self employed and all.
I did not have trouble accessing any sites
until I switched to SBC DSL service.
Keep noticing more and more of those
"you do not have permission to access this site"
and "not found on this server" messages.
Frequently those sites will load for a few seconds
and then disappear to be replaced with the
error messages.
Gimme some more damned tin foil!

20. Another less tin-foil hat explanation...
... might be that SBC's name servers aren't being updated properly, or there's a problem with a router somewhere. I've run into isolated instances of this happening with my ISP, which they correct when notified.

I've also noticed that when I've left the computer running for long periods of time when not connected to the net, the browser can get flaky (thank you very much, Mr. Microsoft), and rebooting solves the problem.

Try sending a list of URLs to SBC's complaint desk and see what happens.
