There is not ONE issue statement on McCain's Senate website.
The only thing he has on his website is press releases and I find that very strange.

I'm very worried that the GOP is keeping McCain in the wings in case Bush isn't the candidate and keeping his positions open so they can cook them up at the last minute, perfectly crafted to counter John Kerry's positions.

http://mccain.senate.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Home.Home

The GOP accuses Kerry of flipflopping but what is the term for a Senator who DOESN'T EVEN HAVE ONE COMMITTED POSITION ON ONE ISSUE TO BEGIN WITH? Kerry has numerous positions clearly and intelligently explained on his official Senate website.

2. I just checked and it's the same with Chuck Hagel's website.
http://hagel.senate.gov/

How can any state be satisfied with Senators who don't have any positions on anything??!!??

9. well that is kind of the way to insure that you will be elected again
is it not?

That way you can manipulate the issues, because you have NOT taken a stand

and this is where I think Kerry makes a big mistake and this is what turns me off as to this candidate that I will be forced to vote for, because the idiot Bush has got to be defeated and thrown out, and thrown far, far away ever, and his entire family needs to be thrown far, far away, because they are ALL stupid people.

3. I Beg To Differ
"The only thing" Sen. McCain has on his website is press releases.

And from that you conclude that he is a Senator "who DOESN'T EVEN HAVE ONE COMMITTED POSITION ON ONE ISSUE TO BEGIN WITH?"??

Sorry, but I beg to differ with you.

First of all, if you go to follow the link you yourself provided, you will see -- at the bottom of the page you link to -- a section called "issues list". The issues list includes things like Agriculture, Aviation, etc.

I think those links give a pretty good idea of some of Sen. McCain's positions, and his committment to them, on some issues.

Furthermore, I think if you actually take the time to read some of his (or Sen. Hegel's) press releases, you get a pretty good idea of their positions of some of the issues of the day.

4. Those "issues list" links only connect to press releases.
And it's just my opinion but I do not think a press release is even close to being a well-thought-out position statement.

5. You May Be Right
about a press release not being close to a well-thought-out position paper.

But, for myself, I can usually tell where someone stands on an issue by reading her/his press releases.

And I also do not have too much trouble discerning how committed someone is to a particular point of view when I read her/his press releases, either.

6. Well, yes, I can understand a press release, too.
"And I also do not have too much trouble discerning how committed someone is to a particular point of view when I read her/his press releases, either."

My point is that it doesn't seem like Hagel and McCain are truly "committed" to being pro-active on anything. They are like windsocks waiting for the BFEE telling them which direction to point.

7. Of All of The Republicans in the US Senate,
I think I would feel most secure with either Sen. McCain or Sen. Hagel.

My own view of those two guys is that they are no one's sock puppet.

There are plenty of sock puppets within the US Senate -- on both sides of the aisle.

But I think Sens. McCain and Hagel are two of the more independently-minded members of that body.

Sen. Miller (D-Ga), on the other hand, seems to be the sort of person you describe -- a "windsock waiting for the BFEE telling them which direction to point."

10. McCain is nobody s windsock!!!
Did you see the Senate hearings last week?

He did the tough questions that have been showed over & over!!

He asked who was in charge? And nobody could answer.

And I did not see any Dem do any better questioning.

And on Sunday McCain blasted Joe Lieberman for his STUPID comments during the hearings. Lieberman was much discussed here last week.

So while Lieberman defended Bush, McCain tried to investigate.

12. Yes, I saw both of those things.
McCain was great and Lieberman was practically a neocon.

But I can't help but think that a Senator who doesn't post his positions on his website is being an opportunist.

8. That is because McCain has a separate website
for political issues.

He started it when he ran in 2000, & used it for campaign finance reform.

It used to be called Straight Talk; & I used to get emails for campaign reform.

I am sure if you google, you can find it.

That is where he speaks out & blasts people.
