I wish Kerry would go ahead & announce his VP pick because
Edited on Mon May-10-04 03:20 PM by Lex
. . . either guy (Clark or Edwards) will give Kerry a respectable and permanent boost in the polling numbers that are coming out by CNN, Gallup, Zogby, etc.

Don't you think so? Didn't Kerry hint his pick might be announced in May?

1. If he needs an emergency backup
I'll volunteer. This miserable jobs recession has got me sidelined from the workforce.

2. No, it's fine. It would distract from the bush atrocites. We need to FOCUS

on the horrors being committed by the bush regime.

8. True, I guess we shouldn't distract from
the chickens coming home to roost in this Administration and their war-mongering and war crimes.

You're right--I think Kerry definitely should let that story play out first. It should remain the top story as long as possible.

17. You're right
The Bush administration is doing a damn fine job of destructing all on it's own.

3. He Would be Better Served to Wait for the Right Moment
to get a bounce. Why distract from the torture scandal? Why get a bounce only when it's so early it will fade by the convention, much less the election?

The one thing I agree with is that the pick should be announced at least a week before the convention to get the maximum media effect.

7. Hi Lex! As your neighbor and your great admirer
I disagree!

I love the way that Kerry is waiting, waiting, waiting like a cat at a mousehole, letting all the poison of the Chimp administration come out into the sun, without getting his paws dirty.

I think he should wait to announce his VP at the convention, for maximum build-up, anticipation, and exposure.

The only polls that matter are the ones in the month leading up to the election (I'd say the only poll that matters is the one on election day but I think Kerry needs to have a strong lead before then to head off any possible electoral vote tallying shenanigans).

Keep 'em guessing, Kerry.

12. Right back atcha, yardwork.
And you, as usual, make an excellent point.

I'm just wanting to see Kerry polling at 10 points ahead of Bush.

I guess I'm craving good news because the bad news has been so BAD.

10. And Kerry dosen't really need a boost in the polls right now.
Its too far out. I would rather have him keep up but avoid the type of lead that would let bush assume an underdog role. With six months to go, the media would just love the resurgent Bush story. A lead in a poll today dosen't mean a lead in the polls in November.

11. Why do you want to spoil it?
Why do you want to spoil one of Kerry's great dramatic moments? One of the few reasons to tune in to the conventions - which, no matter what party, are generally dull and stupid events - is to hear the candidate's pick for veep, and see how easily or how awkwardly the convention ratifies his choice. (I don't think the candidate's choice has ever been rejected by any party, right? But it's a minor bit of tension.)

I, for one, will pay attention to the Democratic convention only to hear the veep choice, and then to hear Kerry's speech. (I don't think anyone cares what the Vice President thinks or says.) And the only reason to listen to the Republican convention is to see if anyone in the party dares to protest inside the hall.

13. I think they usually announce the VP pick BEFORE the convention.
Looks like Kerry is now saying June.

I am looking forward to watching the convention too!

14. there really is NO need
for Kerry to be far ahead in the polls right now.

The real campaign has NOT YET BEGUN!!

Yes, we political junkies are all over this, but most of America is not, nor do they WANT the main campaign to start this early.

It will heat up in August/September, and that's the way it should be.

16. Wait for the right moment
I agree that we should not distract from the mess that Bush is in right now. Wait until the boost can do Senator Kerry some good.
