Front Page of CNN right now, lol
It's official, we're in the Twilight Zone:

President Bush was shown classified photographs Monday depicting acts of apparent abuse of prisoners in Iraq by U.S. soldiers, the White House said. Bush saw the images at a Pentagon meeting, after which he praised under-fire Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for doing a superb job in leading the war on terror.

2. Let's assume, for one small moment, that Bush really *was* out of the loop
on this. Can you imagine how much of a shock it would be to have this dumped in your lap?

Damn, being broadsided by this certainly would not be a pleasant experience.

That being said, no one deserves it more than he does.

Ask McCain in South Carolina. Ask Cleland in Georgia.

The philosophy of 'The ends justify the means' has reached a climax--- or has it?

19. Honestly, I think he was clueless this time.
I think that Rumsfeld and his minions honestly thought that they could sweep this stuff under the rug and they intentionally kept Bush in the dark.

It wouldn't be the first time. I've read tons of articles that have said that Bush is clueless about the details of most of the things going on in his administration. Upon the initial reports back in January, etc., Rumsfeld probably told Bush that he'd personally "take care of it".

No wonder he's pissed.

52. If he was out of the loop
then I hope he realizes the failure of his style of management. He is responsible for the actions of the people in his administration. He was the one that decided to delegate everything and run the country as if he was CEO of a company. If he presses the "I didn't know" line, it raises the question, "Who is, exactly, running this country?"

The clause about seeing the images does act as the antecedent to the clause about praising Rumsfeld.

Careless writing or a subliminal message? You be the judge.

The current issue of Mother Jones has an article how Rumsfeld and Cheney were partners in crime in the Nixon administration in the Office of Economic Opportunity which was to administer -get this- 'The War on Poverty' ! Of course at that time circa 1971 they outflanked the career civil service people there with -get this- hiring PRIVATE CONTRACTORS to do consulting and make decisions.
It was a boondoogle of their making then, it is a boondoogle of their making now.

Same shit, different year, different war.

37. He always seems to wear a weird expression
No matter the occasion.

He actually doesn't look like he's aged as rapidly as some other presidents, especially Carter and Clinton. I think the gravity of being president would do that, but shrub generally looks a little more well rested than they did. And wouldn't you, if you had as many vacations as he has had?

While we're on the topic... What happened to shrub's facial tics? Where did they go? He used to display floridly an array of facial tics and rapid seeming-involuntary grimace-like expressions. Those were especially visible during his '99 campaign appearances and during the debates. They've almost completely disappeared now. Except for his famous smirks.

A former co-worker of mine had Tourette's and explained to me the nature of some of these OCD-type manifestations. Apparently it's nearly impossible to just "quit" these things without pharmaceutical help. My friend explained that he learned a non-drug technique of saving up the tics and then later letting them go in private (he never had the involuntary expressions of expletives that some people with this unfortunate disorder have, mostly just facial tics and sometimes snorting sounds as well as sometimes panic attacks when he felt confined, like when we had mandatory overtime); he stopped using that technique though, because he would end up with severe muscle cramping from all the saved-up tics coming at once. Maybe someone with more knowledge of these disorders can comment? I don't mean any putdown to anyone with these conditions.

But shrub seems to have demonstrated something like this during his most visible part of his career, but they all suddenly stopped once he got in the White House. Is he on drugs to control them, or maybe this is why he takes so many vacations?
