6. He was EXTREMELY good with the Rangers.
He was in the minors mostly, but came up when someone (I forget who) was injured for a while. He hit, he stole, he fielded (back then he could)... Damn good player.

5. Oh, it was MUCH worse than that!
The Rangers were making a legitimate run for the penant that year. They had one of the best hitting teams in the majors, and one of the deepest farm leagues, so the future was bright, too. Their weak spots were fielding and pitching--especially pitching.

So they didn't just trade Sammy Sosa, who had been called up before and proven he could hit and field (he lost that fielding skill sometime later). Oh no. They also traded their top minor league pitching prospect, Wilson Alverez, whose first official pro game was a NO HITTER! And to top it off, he traded away the Rangers ONLY short stop. Scott Fielder wasn't great, but he was THE ONLY ONE!

So what did he get? Pitching? Fielding? NO! A friggin' DH whose contract was up at the end of the year, and who was coming off knee surgery! And they threw in some utility player with glasses the thickness of coke bottles.

They lost more games that year from errors at short stop than they got homers from Baines!!

I've hated Bush for a lot longer than he's been a politician!
