Regret for Torture Scandal is all in the Getting Caught
The whole posture and rhetoric, from the President on down through the Military Brass, the Senatorial apologists, the punditry apologists (Limbaugh, please medicate), and the absurd finger-pointing and blame-casting in the hinterland...all of it reeks of caring only about being found out.

We have morally imploded, and our soul has floated away.

1. Considering the pictures are months old
You're spot on. The administration has had written reports in hand for months about this, but it was only when the first batch of pictures hit the public that it became concerned. The dark rumors of abuse and torture were kept discreetly in the corner, because everyone knows that Americans don't do that sort of thing. We're better than the rest of the world because of something in the soil that grants us the power to overcome every base human frailty. Didn't you know?

But those pictures. Those pictures. "Somebody stop them damn pictures," growled Boss Tweed.

2. The blackheart at the core of the Military
has been clearly exposed.

It reaches deep into the culture.

3. In one fell swoop the pictures have exposed the ugly heart of
American racism, bloated by the five decades of demonization of Arabs by Israeli propaganda and bolstered by the religious poison of the Christian fundamentalists.Add to this poisonous mix the vile opportunism of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld and you are not far from
the Nazi era barbarism.

12. I call it "Troop Abuse."
They've been complaining to AFN. He's no more than a hate-monger who displays the dark side of the American psyche (and its jurisprudence system) for the world to see. It is NOT a pretty sight.

is a healthy influence on the troops. What a sick culture this military is. I want to be supportive, but that is impossible.
Peace is what we are supposed to be about.
The Pentagon is a self-licking ice cream cone according to one analyst.

11. The media has done it's job...
... it's bombarded the sheep with accounts of this to reach full saturation. And now people naturally start taking a contrarian view - it's the nature of our society. That's what the Bush administration is really counting on.
