Could someone please confirm or deny this rumor for me? I know the Crawford Cretins aren't the brightest people in the world, but surely, they couldn't be this desperately stupid.

6. I think she said this:
"we have libations and the grill is full of beef and ham."

She was sloshed at the time, of course.

8. No, she didn't say it.
Someone posted a link to the transcript yesterday. The transcript showed that she talked about rebuilding Iraq - schools, water, etc. Then she went on a quick tangent about Afghanistan and little girls can now go to school and are liberated from the Taliban.

So while she did put "Iraqi" and "Taliban" in the same sentence, she didn't mess it up quite as bad as one might think.

I'm not a Bush apologist. I just don't find it useful for any of us to misquote what she said.

9. I didn't see the show and I didn't read the transcript, but
transcripts have been "tidied" in the past.

10. You are absolutely right on that score...
History will NEVER really know what the Bushies have said... the real stuff has been relegated to the editing room floors! Sigh.

12. That makes sense... but also demonstrates a complete
disconnect from reality - or an intentional disregard for international news regarding the "cause" she adopted after the war in Afghanistan.

Early on as the Girls' Schools were opening there were a rash of bombings and arsons set at the schools around the country. To the point were, at least as of a number of months ago, many many girls were still prevented from getting and education. The US early on declined participating in UN peace keeping efforts in Afghanistan (they had to get their Iraq War On) - and decided to only stay in Kabul - and to have a presence of forces to go on raids against suspected Al Qeada and Taliban pockets. According many news items they have had limited success (probably due to the small size of troops - again related to the "had to get their Iraq War On") and by the summer/fall of 2002 there were reports that Al Qeada was beginning to regroup in the border areas between Afghanistan and Pakistan... and by this past winter there were parts of Afghanistan (south?) that seemed to have come back under Taliban control - or at least where the Taliban is operating without impugn. No, in many parts of Afghanistan the girls and women have not yet been liberated. Laura declaring this is true (rather than mention progress being made - something a little more modest could have been spun to be both accurate and sound positive) - suggests that there was never great concern on her part for this issue - or she would have made an attempt to follow the news and reports on progress of women/girls.

11. The way I remember it....
...I thought we handed all the Afghani girls to General Dostum, who then ate them (or whatever it is he usually does with children)?
