Eric Alterman on O'Franken - and it's just starting now...
"What Liberal Media?"
"The Book on Bush"

I've read both and they're excellent!

3. New game show slamming O'Really: "Why is this stupid?"
Edited on Tue May-11-04 01:21 PM by Richardo
Al plays clips of O'Reilly saying there is NO right wing media cabal, but there IS a left wing cabal consisting of George Soros and "the websites".

Hilarious.

9. I always find that funny
The Fright Wing gets up in arms about Soros' $15 million when Far Righties like Rev. Moon, the Coors Family, Richard Mellon Scaife, the Olin Foundation and others have given $2.5 to $3.5 Billion to Right Wing causes over the years...

4. Thanks for the heads up
Ironically I was just reading "What Liberal Media" a few minutes ago. I finally got around to picking it up since it is now out in paperback. Highly recommended (as is Eric's weblog Altercation)

5. Limited on my Alterman knowledge
I've read the excellent books and read Altercation, as well as his columns when I remember to, but he has one problem as far as I can see. On the Media Matters program he was on last March 2, he seemed hair-trigger touchy, twice going after people who essentially agreed with him but quibbled with his way of putting things. What's up with that? Is it residue from doctoral exams? Has he always been that way (i.e., when he appears on cable news programs)?

I see in today's Altercation, btw, this rule for emailers: "If are the slightest bit snotty, superior or abusive in tone, I stop reading, delete and turn the address into spam. I don’t get paid to be abused." It seems one thing to delete the message, but another to delete the messenger for good--especially, as I say, because his antennae for abuse seem pretty oversensitive.

8. I did listen to Rush today for 10 minutes just to see where they are going
with this scandal. He was flailing against the media for
not letting go of this torture scandal, stating that they
felt that they had lost ground to HIM and needed this story to
regain lost ground? He didn't make any sense at all he was flailing
about, almost incoherent. These folks are in big big trouble and they know it. I was so happy to hear that smarmy little bastid squirm.

My point in relation to this topic is that he was talking about the
media leaning left, a point which Alterman has throughly debunked.

7. Ending the segment by talking about the beheading.

Alterman: "I don't know."

Katherine: "If you were here, I would smack you."

Then they compared Iraq to Vietnam.
