who's name was Mike Berg, was beheaded, and the beheading was videotaped, and it is being shown on Arab web sites. The Arab terrorists are calling it retribution for American treatment of prisoners at Abu Ghairb.

I thought it was Nick Berg?

MSNBC just reported they are al-Qaida operatives. How convenient....just another connection between Iraq and Osama.

We know what terrorists are and we know what they do. They made no secret of it.

Now if they tried to hide it, like the occupiers in Iraq do, then it should be shown, so the world could see the truth.

Maybe nightline, or news show after 10pm and only with sufficient and strong warning.

It's things like this that will help to continue to wake up people to the reality of what's going on. The shock to their comatose systems is what's needed. Sadly this is one of those shocks.

Wouldn't you be outraged enough to nuke them? I know we won't, but as a mother I am sickened over this and irrational in my thoughts of what I'd like to do to those terrorists now.

This is reprehensible retaliation by terrorists toward an innocent man for the bad behavior of a few. I'm sickened by what is going to happen because these prison photos were made public. May as well make the public aware of what the repercussions are of having these squabbles in Washington DURING the war. These hearings and photographs could have waited til after the war, at least until we pulled out of Iraq.

The blood of this innocent man is now on the hands of the people who wanted these picture shown all over the place while our boys are still in Iraq.

I hope the media is happy now. I am sick, just sick and angry at the media. Whether we agree with this war or not, our number one objective should be to keep our boys safe and support them. The media has stuck a knife in the back of every soldier in Iraq.

I'm glad the atrocities in the prison were shown. For one, maybe they'll stop. For two, it has galvanized public opinion against the war, which means maybe we can get the hell out.

Unfortunately, the thousands of dead, burned Iraqi children haven't been shown, but at least the media got the tip of the iceberg.

You feign outrage towards "terrorists" in Iraq who murder a prisoner, but when Americans murder prisoners its just a "few bad apples."

Enough of this nazi bullshit.

I don't condone the murder of ANYONE, by ANYONE, for ANYTHING. But I also think it is ridiculous to brand OTHER murderers as 'terrorists' and then sit around making excuses for the murder of thousands of Iraqi's, and the torture of prisoners at the hands of the US military.

I get the feeling from some people that one American life is worth at least a few hundred Iraqi/Afghani/etc. lives. It is not acceptable, and while outrage at murder IS acceptable, lets have a little perspective here. If being a human being doesn't give you the right to life in this world, than being an American human being is no different. Its sad.

Sorry. Bull-shit alert. My theory right now. with the little information we have? Nick Berg knew something (Photos? What?), was in hiding, and was lured out to be executed by people on our side who are going to cynically exploit this beheading.

and was under NO LEGAL obligation to keep his mouth shut about anything because he hadn't signed a privacy waiver.

Just found this:

26-year-old Nick Berg didn't sign a privacy waiver when he went over there.

And even though the State Department is using its one person in Iraq to help track him down, they can't tell anyone, including Berg's parents what's going on.

And that frustrates his mother Susanne.

"I'm just really scared, because we haven't heard from him for a month, and truthfully, nobody can even tell us whether he's dead or alive."

The local congressional delegation hasn't gotten any answers, either.

Nick last checked in April 9th, saying he was trying to find a safe way home following two weeks of FBI interrogation, after an arrest in Mosul.

This is my opinion.

let them. People are paying more attention now and they won't miss the fact that Berg was kept in the country BY US. And most people will see the connection between the torture videos and this. Everything is different after the torture videos, folks. People are actually paying attention and making the necessary logical connections.

The Republicans and media will spin the video as part of their "We're bad, but they're worse so we're forced to act like animals" justification.

This might well work with the freepers - in fact, we know it has - but to the average person this horrible killing will just be part and parcel of a totally fucked-up situation where neither side has clean hands. This may turn more people against the war, ultimately, than anything we've seen thus far.

This video apparently has audio that has this young man screaming as his head is being hacked off. For the sake of his family, I don't think it should be shown. We can all imagine the horror well enough.

I think it's a good idea to publish the pictures and video of that Americans were doing, IN OUR NAME, to prisoners because we can do something about that!

By publishing the video of the beheading, all we would be doing is publicizing the acts of a professed terrorist group. We as Americans can't make it stop, and I fear it would only energize as Qaieda to seek more publicity to make them seem more important than they are.

It is newsworthy, but not the video.

I believe in an informed public, so I also want to say yes. I think the video is pornographic and vulgar. I certainly think our kids should not be exposed to it. Remember the furor over Janet's boob? Well, we have no problem showing violence in this country. Then again, there is a reality that many of us are not aware of, and anything that will help wake us up to that reality will be beneficial to us in the long run.

Regardless of what happens, the whole thing just makes me sick.

I think we can all agree that there is a certain power to images that the mere printed word lacks.

Why would we not want to show it, for goodness sakes?

And, while we're at it, why would anyone -- ANYone -- not want to denounce what it shows?

Should we expect an apology from the beheaders?
