The U.S. soldiers made photos and video of beating and humiliating and raping and killing Iraqis. These pictures are all over the internet.

They have now done the same thing. Do I feel worse because he is an american citizen? Yes, I do. Its the nature of things. Do I now understand more clearly how Iraqis feel about the things we did and filmed to Iraqis? Yes. I do.

They "sawed" his head off. It wasn't fast, they just had a knife and sawed. Then they picked his head up and showed it to the camera.

I guess I was being skeptical too.......(this may sound strange) but their mannerisms seemed strange to me. The first time I watched it I was thinking (first impression) they move like Westerners, I don't know if there is such a thing but that was my impression of it.

The guy on the right (in the running shoes) in particular -- very fidgety. However my biggest question: why is berg in a what appears to be the standard US issue "detainee" jump-suit?

Again that was just my first impression but I don't know if there really is such a thing. Having lived for 3 years in Germany I can often tell a European just be their haircut, dress, and mannerisms but I don't know if there really is such a thing as a "western mannerism".

As far as the jumpsuit goes....I don't know that either. I does look awfully new and very similar to Gitmo but then it is similar to regular prison outfits.

I've noticed that people in different cultures have distinctive ways of carrying themselves. The people in the video seemed to have movements that I would characterize as familiar.

Who knows? Time will tell I suppose. I guess now we know what Iraqis feel when they see the prison torture and beating pics and videos.

I myself earlier posted "mannerisms" but yes, the adrenalin rush for the killers could have belied the stance. But the statures were not thin and slender but as someone else noted, a "pudgy gut" was a characteristic and overall noted a heavier built, (even accounting for the hoods). Enough for now. I am going for a ride, mainly to get some fresh air. Truth shall set us free.

that before reading any commentary I did watch the clip. I am not known as a person who wears a tinfoil cap, but I did find the clip most unusual. Admittedly I stopped watching as they started to cut off his head, nevertheless I observed the following:
- The soundtrack does not match the video;
- No English is spoken by the guards, yet Berg rattles
off his family tree presumably in response to a request
- Berg does not appear to be frightened or intimidated by
his captors judging from his voice and body language prior
to the final moments
- At least one, possibly two captors are wearing running shoes
- Heading covering of captors is extreme (nothing but eyes visible)
- At least one, possibly two captors appear to have very light skin
- Berg is in an orange jump suit (US issue detainee outfit)

Collectively, these observations combined with the timing of the release of the video, leave me with more questions about the authenticity than they answer.

Okay he might just have been that brave OR he might have resigned himself to his fate OR he didn't know what they were planning to do.

almost five minutes of a hooded man reading a statement, very boring, but dramatic knowing the hostage is about to die. for the the audio seemed ahead of the video, when you start to hear screams, go ahead and stop. you don't want to see it.

I was looking for anything that seemed out of place or bogus.

It looked like what it was supposed to be, for the most part.

The prison garb didn't look like American issue, but it was orange. Don't know what they're using over there. Didn't hear any English spoken by the guards / murderers.

Mr. Berg doesn't seem alarmed at all until the end. He answers the questions very calmly.

The murderer on the far right of the screen seems to be wearing running shoes--is that standard issue for Al Qaeda?

The video starts out with the clock reading "13:26" then after a moment or two abruptly jumps to 2:18. Then it jumps again to 2:40 when the terrorist leader goes into his diatribe. One explanation for the time jump was that they were using two cameras and spliced the footage together. Seems a little sophisticated for a quick political message, doesn't it?

Berg is sitting in a white plastic chair with his hands unbound. Then he is sitting on the floor with his hands bound behind him (apparently) and his feet bound. What kind of flooring is that anyway--it looks like cheap gymnastic mats from phys ed class?

The audio plays slightly ahead of the video. I wonder if it was overdubbed. Terrorist number 1 seems to get confused in his notes and keeps turning pages over but the voice doesn't seem to pause at all.

Terrorist number 1 also seems to have a ring on his right hand. Would that be consistent with Islam?

Several of the guards are wearing green vests that look to me identical with the dudes jumping out of the helicopter (above).

Every soldier in Iraq is going to see this, and recognize that this is their fate should they be captured. It will be highly motivational for them, and they will be steeled to kill first and ask questions later. Every chickenhawk here will want revenge.

The people that murdered this man are barbarians. Their act of revenge will caust the deaths of many of their own innocents.

In a very sick way, it may lead to the earlier withdrawl of US troops if more people in the US are unwilling to continue to pay the price for Bush's agression. We know the right wing will never care about the senseless slaughter or torture of Iraqis, and they will only be moved by seeing their own slaughtered like sheep. Of course, the leaders of this country will never have them personally affected by this because within all of our government, I think there is only one son or daughter of a government official on duty in Iraq.

War and barbarism like this are the lowest form of humanity, for there is none under these circumstances.

Five uniformed and masked men stand behind a young man in an orange jumpsuit sitting on the floor bound but not gagged.

The man in the middle reads something presumably in Arabic off several sheets of paper. The man on our right fidgets, scratches and adjusts his firearm. This took about four minutes. When I saw it (on a slow computer) the audio was slightly out of sync with the video.

There is a loud high-pitched scream then screaming and shouting. One of the men pulls a large knife resembling a machete. The other men tip the young man on his side. The camera is jostled and we lose sight of the action for a momoent. When we re-acquire the young man, one of the uniformed men is sawing at his neck with the knife. Blood spurts everywhere. The uniformed man continues to saw at his neck for about 25 seconds, eventually severing his head and holding it up to show the camera. The scene changes and the head appears on something orange, presumably the jumpsuit. The scene shifts again and the head is held up for display.

2. Muslims traditionally behead quickly and cleanly with a sword, I believe.

It appears that this "homelandsecurity" site is some far right propaganda outfit. They are hosting this video to try and inflame public opinion as a counter reaction to the negative publicity about the prisoner abuse. They want people to think that the prisoners deserve bad treatment because of the awful things being done to the poor bastard in the video. Freeper logic: some Iraqis are bad so therefore its OK for us to act in a barbaric fashion toward all Iraqis under our control.

Given that its a RW propaganda site trying to link Iraq to 9/11 so that their little 'War-President" doesn't look like a total fool, I wouldn't be surprised if the video is a hoax.

It can't be a coincidence that this video's timing comes during the abuse hearings. I have not viewed the video, but based on others' descriptions, it may be a hoax. I am really hoping it is.

I did campus security while in college and the police officers allowed me to look at some crime scene photos on file at the station one time. I can still recall the images in my head 14 years later.

He's just a kid. I will not re-watch to see if I can pick up on any major discrepancies. He seems so calm, fatalistic? drugged? He's bound hand and foot it looks like and there isn't any reaction until they pull him onto his side.

I've read other posts by Tinoire on some of the background on Nick Berg's disappearance, but I'm having a tough time trying to understand the why of it all. If the executioners are Iraqis, why were none of the other hostages that had been taken tortured/photographed/etc. The Iraqis knew of the torture going on at the prisons. If the men are al qaeda (sp?) followers why wait until now? Again, they've known about the U.S. torturing Iraqis for months. If it's some black ops group - whether CIA, private contractors or whatever - why? What could this kid have known that he needed to be silenced? Was his execution simply to change the focus of the torture hearings?

As much as I think shrubco is capable of just about any evil, I'm having difficulty believing they could go to the lengths of killing this kid just to try and influence the media's talking points.

My heart goes out to Nick's parents and family. Those poor people.

That is not true.

The people who beheaded Berg literally "saw" his head off.

I just called Sherwood's office and gave them a hard time about the iraq abuse pix and videos not being released, told them we're demanding the release, that he's known about that since LAST YR, and we want them out NOW..due to the video of the Phila man being beheaded...She was speechless...then asked my name, address, and phone # so they can respond to me! Told her we want them out, and that we don't want the reserves/MP's taking the rap when this goes right to the top in the administration!

Without question, it was a horrible thing to happen to anyone, but why put it on a govt. site......even though it is real, it sounds like govt. propaganda to me. I have ever seen aside from seeing a man shot and killed in real life. It is no more gruesome, however, than the scenes that I am sure exist of young children blown to bits by American bombs or any number of hundreds of other atrocities we have visited upon the Iraqi people. You reap what you sow and the Bush administration has sown abuse of human rights.
