Is anyone else really surprised that Bush didn't run from Rumsfeld?
I am. I honestly thought that Bush would distance himself and let Cheney and the other administration idiots quietly damn Rumsfeld with halfhearted praise, opening the door for Rummy's hasty exit.

Boy, was I wrong.

Instead, Rumsfeld is "the best" we've ever had and is "superb".

Uh, ok. The guy who completely screwed up the Iraq war planning, undercut the military leaders, "misunderestimated" the post-war resistance, and was clueless about the systemic abuse of Iraqi prisoners, 70-90% of whom were mistakenly arrested with no cause, is "the best ever".

Hmm....

11. Yep, and Bush will probably only fire Rumsfeld if God tells him to.
:silly:

2. Why the surprise?

If Bush fired him, or even criticized him, that would imply that Bush had made a mistake in picking him. That would be impossible.

8. Frankly, I think they need a scapegoat.
And Rumsfeld seemed like the easy target. He falls on his sword; they blame everything on him. Nice and neat.

But that, of course, would mean breaking up the neocon fraternity, and Rumsfeld has a lot of power in the administration. He likely wouldn't go quietly if forced out.

3. Bush is not in charge of anything. He does as he is told.
I'm always surprised when they say that Bush took Rummy to the wood shed. What a laugh. Rummy is part of the Wofowitz, Pearl et al. group. Bush, Rice and Powell are their sock puppets.

5. No
Firing rummy would result in interesting senate confirmation procedings after * nominated a new def sec. The bfee wouldn't risk such a public process during the growing iraq debacle.

6. no.
this doesn't surprise me......running would be admitting that his administration was wrong....and bush would never do that..another thing....he knows the Democratic Party would use it to their advantage...which I would.......one thing bush does NOT like to do.is say that he has ever done anything wrong since he was appointed resident.......

10. True, most of the polls haven't indicated that the American people are
in any hurry to get rid of him, either. Good point.

9. Why would he?
Rumfilled is doing exactly what he wanted to do. Start a war on a pretext to steal oil and enrich his buddies.

It's working beautifully. And, as an added bonus, he may even get Armageddon for his fundie buddies.

12. A while back, Bush told Rumsfeld that Condi Rice would be in charge of
things in Iraq. Does anyone remember that? It seemed to be a slap in the face to Rumsfeld.

Rumsfeld vigorously objected and seemed to have regained his control.

In any event , Rice seems to not be involved at all in Iraq, so I would assume that Rumsfeld prevailed and Rice has not made any decisions at all there even though Bush appointed her the responsibility.

Well, it certainly does look like ALL OF THEM screwed up.

16. Yes, that's part of the reason why I'm surprised that Rummy isn't on his
way out. Bush's appointment of Condi to handle the Iraq mess was pretty bizarre on its own and seemed like the first step in forcing Rumsfeld out. Obviously not.

And, where the hell is Condi Rice anyway?

21. 'Rice seems to not be involved at all in Iraq,'
Rice doesn't seem to be involved in anything-except trotting out to cover the * admin butts once in a while. Oh, I forgot, she's keeping * informed about Russian generals.

13. Never show weakness
If he let Rumsfeld go, that would be a sign of weakness. If he maintains his support for Rumsfeld, then obviously Rumsfeld didn't do anything THAT bad and it is just those damn Democrats being political

17. True.
They're already using that meme. The Democrats are just politicizing the war again.

If people buy that crap - and they obviously do - they just aren't paying attention. What a joke.

14. No. I picture Rummy, Wolfowitz, et al sitting Georgie
down in the Oval Office and TELLING him how the entire affair
going to work. Bush has no options. It's not in his hands.

Only Kerry can save us from this bull, unless the good Republicans come to their senses and abandon Bush.

him. and further, who , if he fired him now, could he replace him with,

By now, I have the impression, that the neocons are going down, and the Repukes are distancing from him. Who would replace this jerk?

23. Yesterday the adoption papers were finalized.
I saw the expression on their faces as Bush and Rumsfeld left the Pentagon following Bush's bizarrely exuberant support of Rumsfeld and I thought: George has picked himself a new daddy. Now it's official.
