Bush: I can't stay, I have a war to run
Anyone remember this, he said it to a female Olympic athlete a couple of years ago, back when he could say the stupidest f*ing thing and no one would criticize him for it.

I must have gotten the quote wrong, because Google only yielded this one hit.

Anyway, he's not doing this John Wayne stuff so much these days, eh?

Since 9-11 most of the public has been jolted to this new reality. In the previous eight years a war room referred to the gathering of political hatchet men to chop down your opponent. How ridiculous and infantile that all seems now. We have a real war room now inhabited by real Generals. There has been a new seriousness in the tone of the media and especially our political leaders. Bush of course epitomizes this new tone. When asked by an American athlete at the Olympics if he was going to stay and watch some of the events he simply said, “No, I have a war to run.”

4. thank you!
yes, this was back when he thought he'd skated, so to speak, on the AWOL thing. I don't think he'll be saying that these days. :-)

Axis of Weasels has a hilarious article about this embarrassment.

3. Since he's 'running the war'
Does that mean he's taking responsibility for all the screwups?

Didn't think so...

6. I remember that...
Wasn't her name Sasha Cohen or something, a figure skater??? She used to do these commercials for beef processors, and she was the darling of right-wingers for a while. I remember that her shtick was to do everything she could to rattle her competitors, like skating waaaay too close to them during practices before the competition... a female dickhead, if such a thing is biologically possible. No wonder people like Limbaugh loved her.

And she didn't even get a medal...
