A poem to contemplate during this whole mess.
How sad that my 14 year old daughter is having thoughts like this. Her life should be full of innocence. They had a horrific showdown at her school I guess which ended up with the students being told they cannot talk about current events (well, this current event) anymore.

So, I'll be on the phone with her principal today. I am stunned and moved by what she has written.

why?
A dream once so believed.
Is now lost.
Why are they so relieved?
Think of the lives it cost.
I feel like a stranger
In a foreign land.
We all are in danger.
Hand against Hand
Where am I headed.
I reallly don’t know.
It’s now that we dreaded.
Im scared yet I won’t let it show.
And now I wish that I had fled.
Surely this isn’t our fate.
In this time of endless bloodshed
All we can do is wait.

But no I won’t let go.
I know we can win.
In time he will let show
His deadliest sin.

1. It's a wonderful poem
and shows that she processing all of this strange information in a healthy way.

The fact that the school has had to ban discussion of current events shows what a hellish hole the GOP has dug for us all. These are precisely the sort of things that high school kid should be training their minds are.

I truly fear that the environment has been laid for a clash that falls somewhere in the ugly country between the early sixties Civil Rights Movement and the Irish Troubles.

2. It must be hard to an adolescent in this day and age
I can hear her angst.

The school needs to be a community, get some (grown up) adults in there, pronto.

5. I never thought my kids would have those "nuclear destruction" fears.
Shame on Bushco for putting our children through this. :(

6. Hi Jen! Miss you and you're welcome.
I was amazed by it. We talk about current events quite a bit at home but I hadn't realized how much she had actually been thinking about it. Hope all is well with you! I miss chatting every day!
