Army Scanning READY RESERVE For Possible Active Duty!!
for those that aren't familiar, the 'Ready Reserve' is made up of former soldiers who have served their active duty time and been discharged. there is a period of a few years after active duty where they can if needed be RECALLED to serve again.

this is DRAFT PHASE 1

<snip>

WASHINGTON -- The US Army has begun screening about 17,000 reservists to determine which would be available to be called to active duty if needed, a spokesman said yesterday.

The soldiers are members of the Individual Ready Reserve and are not formally attached to any specific reserve unit.

No Individual Ready Reserve soldiers have been called up involuntarily so far, said Lieutenant Colonel Burt Masters, a spokesman for the Army's Human Resources Command in St. Louis. Some IRR members could be called up once the screening is finished, Masters said.

The IRR reservists are usually soldiers who have left active duty or active reserve service, but still have time left on their obligation to serve.

They agree to keep themselves ready to be called up in an emergency, but are not required to do the periodic training other reservists must perform.

A letter from one Army Reserve career counselor in Indiana says that the Army plans to activate all of the available individual reservists later this month.

1. Walt Star was making this argument yesterday as well.
With 4 boys this scares the crap out of me.

I saw they want men and women 18-34. I have a sister and several nieces and nephews that would be affected by this.

This is bad and I am scared.:scared:

3. Yes, there were some who thought he was nuts.
All I can say is this appears to be a step in the wrong direction. It shows we obviously don't have enough troops to do the job if we have to call up the IIRC.

13. Maybe this will help
This is what I do...

highlight what you want to move.

Click control + c (that will copy), go to the site you want to move it and hit control + v (that will paste).

Note not control then plus then c just "control c"

That is just the way I copy and paste.

14. Hey, you tinfoil hatter, you!
Dontcha know you're a whacko for getting all hyperventilated over the IRR being activated? It's no big thing, just chill out. There's no draft guaranteed when they implement phase 1 of the draft.

/sarcasm

At least, that's what I was told directly when I raised the issue yesterday.

19. Thanks for the support, Matcom
So many people are pushing their heads in teh sand over the draft issue.

I'm afraid Kerry will have no choice once he takes office. A draft will be necessary after the boy king finishes destroying what's left of what was once the greatest military organization on the planet.

18. You were absolutely correct Mr. Starr
This is just a band-aid to cover us till after the election. This sucks. I don't want to move to a different country. Ive put so much money and work into this house and I like my community. But if the draft comes, I gotta leave.

Son of a bitch can't have my little girl. End of story.
