New CBS Poll: Approval 44%
President Bush's overall approval rating has fallen to the lowest level of his presidency, 44 percent, in the latest CBS News poll, reflecting the weight of instability in Iraq on public opinion, despite signs of improvement in the economy.

Didn't see this posted, though it's probably a dupe and I missed it.

6. Well, that's true... but given
all the admonishments a while back to "ignore" polls, I guess that had an effect.

I guess I also wonder if low ratings will prompt more frantic efforts.

7. CBS Has Consistently Been One of the More Objective Outlets
I had admonished people to ignore Gallup, which has shown a consistent and obvious pattern of biasing their polls in favor of the admin, but even Gallup now has his approvals at all time lows and disapproval at all time highs. It must be real bad if even Gallup can't cover for him anymore.

11. I wasn't addressing that personally
I haven't been watching polls that much myself. I was just commenting on your comment that you thought it would be more interesting to people.

Many years ago, I was around a lot of actors. Almost to a person, they said they don't pay *any* attention to critics, whether positive or negative. The reason given is that if you give weight to the positive ones, you have to do the same with the negative ones.

Polls are somewhat in the same vein. If we are to dismiss the dismal polls we were seeing previously, then we can't give too much weight to the more positive ones.

A comment that's probably neither here nor there, but in response to the thought that it would be of more interest.

Maybe just poll fatigue. :)

9. Yes, but the "improvement in the economy"
is just a mirage. Tumbling stock market, higher interest rates, the high price of gas, food items, health care, etc. etc. etc.

His disapprovals should be much lower. But right now, we'll take it.
