Have you heard the word "Muqtadists"?
Was it my imagination but did I hear someone mention followers of Al Sadr in this way? I could be wrong - I listen to so much CSPAN, NPR, Air America and such. Has anyone else heard this?

2. Sadr followers use the term Mujahedeen
Which means freedom fighter.

I've never read the term muqtadist

4. Muqtada is his first name
So I guess they could be using the term, but I don't know why.

5. Well I know the Pukes need us to have a "badguy" and Al Sadr is the ...
bad guy du jour and I thought I heard a commentator during the Rummy testimony reffer to the Karbala and Najaf resistance (or terrorists depending on where you are) as Muqtadists. But, again, it could have been something that I dreamed, hence my question.

6. the term is a little awkward..
Edited on Thu May-13-04 08:43 PM by Aidoneus
if a label is to be attached, "Sadrists" is the more accurate reference as it recognizes at once Muqtada, his great father Mohammed Sadiq, and Shiism's "4th martyr" Imam Shahid Mohammed Baqir al-Sadr (one of the most important men in Islam in the last thousand years, and also his wife's father).

The burden of history on his back weighs heavy, it reflects great upon Sayyid Muqtada that he and the movement are surviving under such difficult conditions; indeed, even growing stronger.

7. And they believe that the Imam will return much as Christians believe....
Jesus will return. And the religious fanatics are looking for the return of the "Imam" at this very moment.
