WAR! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again....
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
War is something that I despise
For it means destruction of innocent lives
For it means tears in thousands of mothers' eyes
When their sons go out to fight to give their lives

War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing

War
It's nothing but a heartbreaker
War
Friend only to the undertaker
War is the enemy of all mankind
The thought of war blows my mind
Handed down from generation to generation
Induction destruction
Who wants to die

War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing

War has shattered many young men's dreams
Made them disabled bitter and meanLife is too precious to be fighting wars
each day
War can't give life it can only take it away

War
It's nothing but a heartbreaker
War
Friend only to the undertaker
Peace love and understanding
There must be some place for these things today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord there's gotta be a better way
That's better than
War

War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing

3. That's right. So, when is Kerry going to get it?
Sending 40,000 more troops to Iraq means Kerry will make 40,000 more mistakes than Bush did.

Tell his campaign what you expect. If you're opposed to this illegal immoral war, demand that Kerry stop supporting and planning to extend the occupation.

9. I suspect it'll be like Vietnamization.
Going through the motions of what it would take to win (as if it were actually possible to win), and then be able to say, "Look, see, it didn't work, our only choice is to withdraw." Cynical, but it provides political cover for withdrawal and shuts up the critics.

4. As long as we're being musical...
One Tin Soldier

Listen, children, to a story
That was written long ago,
'Bout a kingdom on a mountain
And the valley-folk below.

On the mountain was a treasure
Buried deep beneath the stone,
And the valley-people swore
They'd have it for their very own.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill,
Asking for the buried treasure,
Tons of gold for which they'd kill.

Came an answer from the kingdom,
"With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain,
All the riches buried there."

Now the valley cried with anger,
"Mount your horses! Draw your sword!"
And they killed the mountain-people,
So they won their just reward.

Now they stood beside the treasure,
On the mountain, dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it...
"Peace on Earth" was all it said.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.

(Repeat last verse)

8. And 'patriotic' -
Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore
© John Prine

While digesting Reader's Digest
In the back of a dirty book store,
A plastic flag, with gum on the back,
Fell out on the floor.
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside
Slapped it on my window shield,
And if I could see old Betsy Ross
I'd tell her how good I feel.

Chorus:
But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.

Well, I went to the bank this morning
And the cashier he said to me,
"If you join the Christmas club
We'll give you ten of them flags for free."
Well, I didn't mess around a bit
I took him up on what he said.
And I stuck them stickers all over my car
And one on my wife's forehead.

Repeat Chorus:

Well, I got my window shield so filled
With flags I couldn't see.
So, I ran the car upside a curb
And right into a tree.
By the time they got a doctor down
I was already dead.
And I'll never understand why the man
Standing in the Pearly Gates said...

"But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
We're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more."

6. Well these lyrics are appropo too...
WHAT'S GOING ON...Marvin Gaye

Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Oh, brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
That's Right

You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

Oh my father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today
Barricades, can't block our way.
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see

Oh what's going on
What's going on
Yeah what's going on
Ahh what's going on

What's going on in a world filled with pain
Where's the love for which we pray
What's going on
When our children can't play
Homeless can't eat
There's got to be a better way
What's going on
When we politically blind
Can't see the signs of endangered times
What's going on

Ah tell me
What's going on in the world today
I'd rather be dead
Than turn my head away
We gotta first world vision too comfy to lift our
Hands in the air and cry for a switch

Father, father
Everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Together we can all be strong
United we stand, United we fall

Oh you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
Barricades can't block our way
Don't punish me with brutality

Baby talk to me
So you can see

Yeah, what's going on
Hey, what's going on
Somebody tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's goin' on -uh

What's going on 'cross seas
Every minute a child dies by this disease
In record numbers indeed
Got momma's crying out please
My baby hold on
My child ain't done nothing wrong
Still I want to hollar
Ask them why they don't bother
Oh no, oh no
Make me turn to my father
And ask him why they all got a trapped soul

Somebody tell me what's going on
(what's going on)
We got human beings using humans for bombs
But everyone wanna live
Don't nobody really want to die
You feeling me right
I can't be watching people die
(die)
And watching people cry
Let me break it down for a minute
If there's enough room here for you and me
There's plenty of room for some humanity

Somebody tell me what's going on
(what's going on)
Somebody tell me what's going on
(what's going on)
Somebody tell me what's going on
(what's going on)
Somebody tell me what's going on
(what's going on)
Somebody tell me what's going

7. I play this as post-show music after the concerts I mix.
I'm a tour engineer who works for a singing group that does a very disturbing (to me, not audiences)'America the Beautiful' rendition. It disturbs me because there is a spoken intro that tends to glorify war.

So when the show ends, I put this tune on as walk-out music to remind folks that war ain't good for nothin' despite the nationalistic hymn.

I just lost my CD in someone else's player so thanks for reminding me to get another one.
