Varied accounts? Berg's father says "They" *or* "al Q" responsible?
(Apologies if covered. DU search did not make it appear so.)

Any video of Mr. Berg speaking? Any explanation for these two divergent direct quotes? Were two interviews given?

“The al Qaeda that killed my son didn't know what they were doing”

Vs

“They (referring to Nick Berg’s captors) did not know what they were doing.”

2. Hey Candy
1) The statement "He only saw good in his captors. They...." is ambiguous. Who are "they"? Folks Nick Berg only saw good in.

Nick Berg only saw good in al Queda? Is that what Mr. Berg is saying?

2) The fact that the direct quote has been changed is odd. But maybe they contacted Mr. Berg for clarification. If so, however, it is *confirming* that, in his opinion, his son only saw good in aQ.

5. They didn't know they were killing a man who just wanted to help Iraqis
Berg went there to help, not to profit off of their suffering or to oppress anyone. His father was simply saying they killed a man who just wanted to help people.

3. I think the father is confused by his grief
Nick Berg may have tried to be a friend to Arabs/Muslims but no one is a friend of Al Qaeda. I think by *friend* he may have meant his son was someone who wanted the best for Iraq and he assumes Al Qaeda does also.

6. That is not the question. Did he say 'they' or AlQueda?
If it was 'they' , he could well have meant 'Iraqis'

4. Or maybe...
...since the CIA seems almost sure it was Zarqawi, someone in the media decided to be accurate for a change and decided "they" was more accurate than "al Qaeda" since Zarqawi isn't al Qaeda.
