Arkansas early voting looking hopeful

Early voting ends Monday
Last chance to cast ballot before Tuesday
By BECKY HARRIS
Log Cabin Staff Writer

Today, 1-4 p.m., is the last Saturday, and Monday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., is the last day to vote early for Tuesday's preferential primary.

Fancy touch-screen voting machines are set up in the hallway of the Faulkner County Courthouse, and County Clerk Melinda Reynolds said as the deadline approaches, more voters are taking advantage of the ease and time-saving opportunity.

By noon Friday, 385 Democrats and 135 Republicans had voted early. Reynolds said she had sent out 70 absentee ballots.

I know it's still early, but this is a VERY conservative county in Arkansas and to see this high turnout for Democrats already, gives me hope.

1. Thank Sen. Randy Laverty
(D) who crafted the early voter legislation. My husband and I voted last Tuesday, and by the look of the roster, there were quite a few early voters. We used paper ballots, thank Heavens. Looks like quite a good turnout for Dems in Newton County. And, what's even better, I know a lot of local Republicans who won't vote in the primary but are planning to vote Kerry in the general election. That bodes well for making Arkansas a blue state in November.

3. I hope so too
After Bush's incompetent decisions, Arkansas should be proud that they gave us one of the most competent presidents the country has ever had.

4. Love to see Arkansas go Dem this fall
I will be so proud of my home state. Well, I'm proud now, but will make me proud all over again. It is a wonderful place. If Clark gets the VP nod, I think it will be a sure thing.

5. Sweet justice.
I would so love to see The Natural State tip it for Kerry on election night, similar to when Mississippi tipped it for Carter in '76.

Let the Big Dog out!
