Will the Secret Service pay DU a little visit?
I am curious about some reported Secret Service contacts with people or organizations that have depicted Bush as being trapped or being placed in danger, etc. For example, in Houston there was a case where some artists had painted Bush as being trapped in a sphere of wires. The Secret Service paid them a visit. Other cases have been documented.

Now, the donkey kick to the head of Bush on the DU donation drive promo shown at the top of some of DU's web pages would seem to fit into that same category. So, have the SS G-men asked anyone here at DU for "your papers, please"?

7. the last case of SS harassment
....came close to being just that. It was a case of a 15 year old boy who drew some drawings for a class assignment and was turned in. The mainstream media reported it straight up, and of course the blogs etc really tore into it. Like it mattered...

18. Agent Mike got in trouble for spending too much time in the Lounge.
Nonetheless, I think that he's happy that he's not stuck for double-shifts in the back of a panel van somewhere. At least he's not listening to never-ending wire-taps of wise guys saying "howyadoin'?".

Agent Mike, remember to vote for Kerry in November. That is, if you want to keep your health benefits and have plans for that pension money. You gotta know by now that BushCo has designs on eliminating both.

Agent Mike, if I could, I'd bring you a glass of lemonade, just like Katherine Zeta Jones did in "Traffic".

All I want to do is marry someone I met through DU and earn enough to take care of our mortgage, health-care and a modest savings plan.

I can't earn the money under Dimbo's Dick-Tater's regime and I'm not about to borrow what I need into prosperity.

So, am I a radical or conservative?

32. I am only worried about the situation in general
Edited on Sun May-16-04 10:47 AM by dumpster_baby
As long as I do not generate any communication that may be construed as a threat to the president, I think I will be fine.

But when people who are speaking about politics have to worry about this, it is frightening to me. And then look at some of the responses to this thread. Also disappointing.

Anyone notice that the picture of Bush in the DU donation drive banner above on this page is now gone? I can only assume that it is gone because of this thread.

37. But I DO LOVE the Bush graphics
where on earth did you get the idea that I do not love them? Just because I brought up the subject does not mean that I find them objectionable. I started this thread for a DISCUSSION on the possibility of having to have the Secret Service knock on our doors because of a post of photoshop one of us made. It apparently is happening here in America. But I have been disappointed the lack of discussion on this subject. Does anyone ever discuss things here?

I note again that the Bush-being-kicked-by-the-donkey graphic above is now gone. Once again, I DID NOT find it objectionable. I find the possibility of being visited by the SS disturbing,though...

44. You entirely missed my point.
Edited on Sun May-16-04 12:20 PM by Melinda
My response was not about any appreciation of Bush graphics.

In a nutshell, such graphics have been posted on this site for as long as I can recall, and I have been here for about 3 and 1/2 years now. And not once, in all the time since I have been a member of DU, have I known of anyone to be 'visited' by the FBI or Secret Service, or have a black helicopter fly over their home as a result of photoshopped pics OR vehement diatribes against the immoral, corrupt, and illegimate Bush* cabal (may they all burn in hell forever and ever, amen).

In my experience, one is more likely to be visited as a result of their involvement with real life activities such organizing against the war... google "Peace Fresno" and you'll see what I mean.

If you are disturbed by the possibility of a "visit", then perhaps lurking might just be the best option for you. As for me, I say
:

"BRING IT ON"

*edited to add that the graphic showing Bush* being kicked in the face is gone because that milestone on the chart was met; DU fund raising graphics always change as certain points on the fund raising banners continuum are reached. The fact that it has now changed has nothing to do with your post - not a thing.

22. By now...
I have no doubt they have dossiers filling entire warehouses on this place.

:hi: Mike.

But, what the hell, the NSA is reading my Earthlink mail (and yours), the FBI is subpoenaing phone records that likely include ours, and they are snooping into every other record they can find in the grand hunt for terraists.

With the information overload they've got, some will get trapped in the net for a while, real terrorists and criminals will slip through, and we can rest easy knowing our tax dollars are well spent. :evilfrown:

I suggested on another forum that everyone randomly throw keywords like "assasinate" into every usenet and forum post and email just to give them something to do.

24. Dorothy Gilman (Mrs Pollifax series) wrote Nun in a Closet in the 70s
In that book, a small order of nuns inherit property. There are Mafia type people, a commune, etc. There's an FBI guy who spends his days going thru the commune's garbage and listening to phone conversations. When the 'good guys' need help, the fast way they get it is to throw away a cryptic note of secret meeting with questionable people.

34. if they visited and questioned the houston art show
where Bush was trapped in a sphere of wire, then I would think that the Bush being flushed down a toilet would be fair game, too.

And then there was the visit to the person who had a poster on her wall in her apartment. The poster showed bush putting his head in a noose..

I dunno. Maybe the fact that those cases were not available on the Net for the SS to peruse online, and that therefore they HAD to visit personally in order to see what it was, exactly.

Let me make clear that I do NOT in any way find such depictions offensive. I find Bush abhorrent, to the max.

The most disturbing thing is that some background checks for the people involved may show that such a person has been investigated for possible terrorist threat, or something similar. In this looming neoliberal serfdom job market, that is frightening.

by the Pentagon, as a US citizen under Wisconsin Law and U.S. Constitution in a nation that has been betrayed imho by criminals and cults created by previously "unknown" individuals and entities hiding behind the shield of "national security".

I would like the world to know that I had some life experiences that would sound unbelievable as a result of the illegal Operation CHAOS in 1969 approved by President Nixon under the Huston Plan. You can take it to the bank.
