What just happened on Meet the Press?
Russert came back and said that Powell's press agent had tried to terminate the interview. Was he making too much of that? Or was there some attempt to shut Powell up?

1. At the end
Russert said the press agent had tried to terminate the interview when the question of Powell's UN speech was raised. If the press agent is still working for Powell tomorrow, I'll be shocked.

3. Powell in mid-answer, picture dissappeared and a woman's voice was
heard speaking to Powell, some back and forth with Russert, then Powell said "Get away, Emily! Tim, go ahead." That is what it looked like to me. Someone on West Coast could verify.

There was an actual attempt to shut Powell up.
His Press Secretary "Emily" knocked the camera out of the way, and you could hear Powell and her arguing in the background. "Emily get out of the way, he isn't finished asking his questions yet." And her response was something like, "They are going to use it for editing."

It was a question regarding his appearance before the UN and his claims that Iraq had WMD. I'd like to see a transcript of the interview, it seems strange that would cause his Press Secretary to act that way. (I mean the question has been asked before.)

28. Cripes!! Kudo's to Russert---How it pains me to say that....
SBJ,the GD Bush administration REALLY thinks this is Nazi Germany. WE control the media,WE only answer questions WE want to answer. WE will take certain people off of stations if WE determine they are against us. This is fucking unbelievable,no wait--it is VERY believable....

I thought that maybe Powell's grandkids were wandering around the set...seriously. As if maybe they joined him on location and wre fooling around! ( I must watch too many John Kennedy White House documentaries) Because Powell (taken off camera) had that tone when he said, "Emily get away from there." As if he was scolding a child or something. THEN, Tim stated it was inappropriate...it sort of all pieced together. I thought that Tim was overreacting at first...but on the replay the camera swung at the very same moment it became clear what Russert was going to ask.

6. Still sounds pretty bizarre!!!

I am not able to watch it for a while yet because I'm on the west coast! PLease tell more if there is anything else to tell! I'm intrigued now.

I know that "cool!" sounds dull-witted, but .... man! I'm on the East Coast, but will be able to pick up the WC show. Unreal! The administration is falling apart at the seams! On MSNBC, a reporter says Blair is thinking of bowing out by fall.

....but we're left with some very, very, big messes and the terrorists are more inflamed than ever. The next 4 years won't be easy, even with Kerry as President...and a Democrat House and Senate! (I hope.)

that the interview, which he said was taped earlier that morning, ran unedited. i guess to counter "emily"'s statement about MTP editing the interview.

powell certainly did not look or sound happy about the incident.

later on though, russert asked john mccain about running as kerry's vp & mccain said that he wished the camera could pan to a palm tree or something at that moment.... ;)

There are people who work for and around Powell at the State Dept. who are there to reign him in. I wonder if she is one of his or one of theirs?

is that this was Powell's third interview of the day and that the cameraman "got tired"! Yeah, I just bet the cameraman got tired--tired of Powell being asked about his lies re WMD!
