Alhurra (US Official Arab Network) will show videos of Saddam's torture
Edited on Sun May-16-04 10:21 AM by Alerter_
This looks like desperation. They are going to show torture videos from Saddan Hussein on the Alhurra network, the official US propaganda network for the Arab World. I assume they show that Saddam's torture is even more brutal and disgusting than ours. But since the Democrats are working hard to suppress evidence of war crimes, we may never know.

First, the photographs. They are of actual live castrations of Kurds.

Now, the video tapes:

Two beheadings, during one of which "Happy Birthday, Saddam" is being sung in Arabic.

Fingers being cut off one by one from a hand tied to a board.

People being thrown off four-story buildings, one forced to wear a Superman costume.

A man scourged ninety-nine times.

Three different instances of gas poisonings (probably employing different types), including dead babies.

1. Wow... I think this is to make sure that Saddam's assassination
when they give him back to Chalabi's son is justified. Besides, of course, showing what inhofe said: Thank Allah we are now the prison guards.

we need ALL THE PICTURES FROM OUR OWN TORTURE TO GO SIDE BY SIDE. If we are going to be obscene about this, we should go all the way, not just get to second base.

3. How pathetic can they be...
Edited on Sun May-16-04 10:26 AM by Spazito
when they have to do this and all it will say is that there are no photos out there showing they are as bad as Saddam. If they do this, their excuses for holding back the photos and tapes that Congress looked at goes down the drain given that Saddam will be on trial and this could "affect" his right to a fair trial. It will contravene the Geneva Convention as well.

Hell of a moral argument there."

5. are they using them as training films for US interrogators?
I'm sure the right wingers would LOVE it if the US used these kinds of tactics. Seems like they are really pissed off that the US is only resorting to the kinds of things shown in the photos so far, against people who are grabbed off of the streets for no reason.

The Saddam photos will show the US how to act like REAL, determined interrogators...

6. What better way to justify how divine we are than to show
cruel acts made by the ruler we deposed.

That's like saying "Clinton did it!" while wilfully allowing hijackers to ram jet planes into buildings...

7. I didn't think it was possible .. but I'm in shock ..
The television website says:
the television network ..."is financed by the American people through the U.S. Congress." ...

The betrayal of the American people (and world population) continues.
When will this nightmare end.

9. So Bush's TV station is going to show torture pictures. How low will he go
to save his butt?

Bush demanded we do not show our torture of Iraqis because it would shame Iraqis, but he is going to show Saddam's torture of Iraqis?

Bush is trying to save his own butt by shaming Iraqis. He is despicable!

13. I think most of the people in Iraq already hate Saddam
So what exactly will this prove except that for years we supported a very brutal dictator. In fact, I wonder if they'll play the photo of old Rummy shaking hands with Saddam right beside these brutal photos.

Edited on Sun May-16-04 12:18 PM by AussieInCA
this is so stupid, instead of images showing the torture situation is over they are going to show them torture, so as to reinforce how it is still around...just a little different.

Man there are some stupid people making some really stupid decisions to justify their immoral behavior and policy

20. Thanks for the heads up
If CBS does their job right, they may be able to head off this despicable BushCo shaming of Iraqi citizens.

I keep seeing in my mind's eye someone such as Riverbend watching her television and seeing her son, or father or family friend being tortured. How awful a person Bush is.

Washington, D.C., February 12, 2004--

Alhurra, a new Arabic-language satellite television network, began broadcasting to millions of viewers in 22 countries across the Middle East on February 14, 2004.

Alhurra (Arabic for "The Free One") is devoted primarily to news and information. In addition to reporting on regional and international events, the channel broadcasts discussion programs, current affairs magazines and features on a variety of subjects including health and personal fitness, entertainment, sports, fashion, and science and technology. The channel is dedicated to presenting accurate, balanced and comprehensive news.

Alhurra is operated by The Middle East Television Network, Inc., a non-profit corporation funded by the U.S. Congress through the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG). The BBG is a federal agency that supervises all U.S. nonmilitary international broadcasting. The channel broadcasts from studios in Springfield, Virginia and bureaus throughout the Middle East.

Norman J. Pattiz, chairman of the BBG's Middle East Committee who spearheaded development of Alhurra, said, "Alhurra will present fresh perspectives for viewers in the Middle East that we believe will create more cultural understanding and respect."

Saddam himself didn't do the torture...
so they must figure it was "6 or 7 morons" trying to give Saddam a bad rap... by the way they are looking at it, right?

wouldn't it???

Vile. Disgusting. Nothing is too sickening for these people to do--as much as to say to the Iraqi people, look, it could be worse (and will if you don't get with the program).

23. Why?
Who thinks Saddam was a good guy? This whole argument is the most obvious display of relativism, something that the conservatives have constantly railed against, that I can recall seeing in quite some time.
