Exurbs? Do they help Repugs
A friend of mine told me that Repugs may do better in blue states in the future, particurally in the Midwest, because of the "Exurbs" which are small, formerly rural towns, just beyond what are considered to be the suburbs. Does anyone know more about this?

1. Why would high gas prices and no pub transport favor repugs?
I've heard this sort of thing a number of times.

As an ex-exurbinite--which I would define as a professional who commutes to the city from beyond the suburbs. I can't imagine that practical considerations make Bush look good.

Of course, being an unemployed professional knocks me out of the statistics so maybe I am an anomoly...But the folks I live around aren't happy about $2+ gasoline and an absence of light rail or regional buses. Indeed, they are very unhappy about gas prices and absence of travel options.

At the same time they seem to be folks who feel the sound of an 18 wheeler on a county road or ordinances about maintenance of septic systems is evidence of living too close to civilization.

Republican? Not really. More like Ted Kosinski on Zoloft.

2. I don't know the statistics, but that just doesn't sound right
I live in a small town in Bucks County, north of Philadelphia. It was far more conservative 30 years ago than it is now that the fringes of the suburbs have crept within spitting distance.

My impression is that as the population of these towns grows, it's with soccer mom types -- exactly the people who are getting turned off by the Republicans and lining up with the emerging Democratic majority.

If your friend knows something different than that, I'd sure like to hear it.

3. it is because we are having a tough time raising kids
adn i have said this in the past and pretty much jumped on as being sexually repressed, fundie or republican.

there is a core that democrats are losing and they dont see it, just like they didnt see that they are losing with the south

a lot of the running from democrat has to do with talking points, not a truth. and this is the re education that the democrats have to do. a lot of people are associating things with democrats that are false. but there are also things that are driving this area away

4. I don't see why 'exurbs' would favor Repubs
I think that is part of the whole false 'everyone is turning Republican meme they are trying to spread.
